Really this is to show the velocities achieved so others can deduce their loads. Target Distance 50 Yards, Temp 80 deg+, Vel measured 10' from muzzle. Mag rifle primer, rem cases. WARNING - DO NOT FOLLOW THESE LOADS - WORK UP YOUR OWN USING A RELOADING MANUAL Bullet Nosler partition 400 grains, Powder reloader 15 - 79 grains Avg vel 2359 Bullet Barnes banded solid 400 grains, Powder reloader 15 - 77 grains Avg vel 2354 Bullet Swift A Frame 400 grains, Powder reloader 15 - 77 grains Avg vel 2316 Bullet Swift A Frame 400 grains, Powder reloader 15 - 78 grains Avg vel 2373 Bullet Swift A Frame 400 grains -- ** Best group about .50" 3 shots touching. Powder reloader 15 - 79 grains Avg vel 2417 ES - 4, SD - 2. The barnes solid and the swift A frame shot to the same point of impact at 50 yards. I feel the solid's charge can be increased by one grain! What's interesting to note is the diff. in vel btwn the barnes and the swift driven by at the same powder charge. Likewise the diff. in vel btwn the nosler and swift driven at 79 grains. Rifle - SAKo hunter model. | ||

Good to see someone active with the 416 Rem Mag. What's your barrel length? Do you ever use 350-TSX or 350-A Frames?? If it's of any use for 416 Rem fans, in addition to the 400s, I load the 350TSX w/ RL-15 for different rifles working up loads at 79gr, 80gr, 81gr, and 82grains shooting for 2600fps. The TSX clocks pretty close to Barnes X velocities in the low 2500s for 79gr, 2550 for 80gr, and in the 2600s for the 81 to 82gr range. This is from 24-inch barrels. I think the Gold Standard for this particular bullet is 82gr of RL-15 w/ GM215M primers. 100 yards shooting free-recoil off a sandbag with NECG fixed sights, I generally get groups around 1-inch square. I'd probably look at the same load for the 350-A Frame. I tend to agree with Randy Brooks daughter, Jessica Treu, on her statement reference the 416 Rem “A moderate 82.0 grains of RL 15 and a 350-grain X-Bullet moving at 2,525 fps is a terrific one-gun-one-bullet combination for just about any quarry.” Best  | |||

I believe barrel is 24". Since I am using it on dangerous-game I prefer to use the 400 grain bullet. Am not a fan of uploading and downloading calibers to make them something they are not. Am also a big believer of bullet weight especially if stipulated velocity has been obtained. | |||

Ready, I am shooting 79 gr of RL-15 with a 400 gr swift and 400 gr NP at 2415 FPS. My Noslers shot about the same as the Swifts. Both very accurate with this charge. Additionally I tried a 370 North Fork ahead of 81.5 gr of RL 15 for 2524 avg FPS. All the loads shot tight groups but not to the same point of impact. Win 70; 24" I concur with your warning regarding loading! EZ

The best I recall is the 416 Remington was always marketed, since its invent, as a broad brushed versatile chambering making for the perfect all-around large game cartridge. This included the use of proper 400grain bullets for African hunting of larger species, and this included the use of proper 350grain bullets for hunting large bears and moose. You’re the first I’ve ever heard proclaim that the use of 350grain bullets somehow is an attempt to make the 416 Remington into something it is not. I can see selecting the proper bullet for the game hunted, but throwing the 350grain bullets out with the bath water seems to short change the overall versatility of the cartridge, in my opinion anyway. I have shot a fair number of 350 grain Swift A-Frames. I keep the velocity down to 2,550 fps. I use different colors of primer sealant, and only use one size on a given hunt. Thank you for sharing your load data! Using a Sako Hunter is the key to your accuracy  . Mine also throws the bullets into tiny clusters.LD  | |||

Yes thank for that. OOOOOPS I sold my Sako AV 416 RM and replaced it with a 416 RM Winchester. Do you think that it is going to go against me? Maybe I better keep the Sakos in the safe and the Winny somewhere else ! | |||

Thanks for the info I've finally got my .416 Remington completely assembled, Montana action, 24" Douglas barrel, McMillan stock and Zeiss 1.8-5.5x Conquest, weighs in a 9.4# empty. We're in the getting to know each other period and things are going swell. Groups with the 350gr TSX and Barnes' max load of Varget are running around 0.6" at 100 yards. Barnes says this should be in the neighborhood of 2,600fps but I haven't been able to find my chrony since I moved.  Sighted in at 200 yards the 350gr TSX load would be close to the same trajectory as a .308 Win 168gr SMK match load to out further than I'd shoot any animal. But the .416 hits a little bit harder than the .308 on both ends.  | |||

These rifle seem to want to shoot. I have never tried to squeeze a lot of velocity out of mine. I think that keeps the vibrations down. I know the lower recoil makes me more accurate. I love the Sako because of the stock design on their 416 Hunter. One of the most under appreciated designs ever. I used to run a lot of Swift A-Frames through mine. 350 grains mainly. The 400 grain bullets were not bad to shoot either. From a sitting position I could generally hit a clay pigeon at 100 meters and a 20 ounce soda pop bottle at 200 meters; both of those with iron sights. I do have a Swarovski 1.1x4 on it now.
