Knocked my bench light off onto the floor last night, after sweeping up all the pieces and despositing them into the trash ( As per wifes instructions ) I now need another light.
Before I buy another light thought I would ask what type is best, never did like the one I had

I have heard it said that a flouresent light has an effect on a digital scale but I have one over my bench and have no problems with it. I think it depends on the distance between scale and light.

tu2Over head directly above and over head above and no more than 2 ft behind. Clamp type, bright, spiral flouresent Goose necks right and left. The over heads can be flouescent and a small adjustable overhead spot ain't all bad.Brightly painted wall in front. The idea is to eliminate shadow. beerroger

My bench is in the garage. I hung a 2 tube flourescent over it and have had no problems with the digital scale. Have tested it several times. No problems. I like the flourescent overhead. Gives plenty of illumination without being overly bright or harsh.

Get a fluorescent lamp on an articulating swing arm with a magnifying glass in the center.

Here one from Harbor Freight Tools.

I have to laugh, back when I first started reloading the reloading room was an old camping trailer with dirty windows and overhanging vines.

Nowadays I'm a big fan of the "2 light" school- overhead lights of some sort and a separate desk lamp to light up whatever you are working on.

I think it has to do with the books and scales changing over the years, they were never this hard to read before!

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Big Grin

I have one similar to what GreenJoy mentioned and it is excellent. We always refered to them as Inspection Lights, but they could have many names. It is real nice to be able to move the light around as needed and the magnification is very handy when looking for the beginning of Neck Splits.

Actually, I prefer a well lighted room and the close-up lights too.

Best of luck to you.

I had a florescent light for a year, when I bought a jeweler's electronic scale I discovered the light was affecting the weight measurements.

My florescent light is 24-30 inches from my RCBS Rangemaster 750 scale. Is that too close? I'd like to know how florescent light screws with a digital scale, anyway.

I recommend this type . Mounted slightly behind you up 5 + Ft. above you and tilted 7 degrees towards you

eliminates shadows . As previously mentioned Egg shell , white, semi gloss wall is outstanding .

Bulb Color Temp is important when choosing fluorescent lights measured in ;

# Bulb Shape : T8
# Bulb Type : F48T8
# Color Temp. (Kelvin) : 4100K

Utilitech 12" Utility Chrome Circline Fixture

I installed two each of the above evenly spaced in recessed light well Bays of our home's bathrooms

( it used to have fluorescent strip lights #2 2X4 Ft. fixtures W/ #4 40 watt bulbs per bay )

Let me assure any of you the differences are STARTLING to say the least !. I made provisions and wired

light cans for #3 each . Thank GOD I didn't buy or install 3 !!! . Flip the switch with just Two

day or night the bathroom transforms into August High Noon at White Sands NM minus the heat of course !.

I tried dimming down with different diffuser lens ; DON'T BOTHER .

We Just live with the HOLLYWOOD STAGE LIGHTING . When I look in the mirror now I see things , I'm not

certain I've ever seen !.

IT'S BRIGHT unbelievably Bright for two smallish round fluorescent with so little wattage !.

I have a flouresent light above. An adjustable light like Bob in TX, and I have floor lamp on either side of my bench with three bulbs each.

I hate working in the "dark"

The only way a light can screw up a dgital scale is if it is a really cheap setup. The ballast and lights in the cheaper units can throw off emf fields that could possibly interfere with the scale sensors. I suppose if it was strong enough it could actually cause some magnetic induction. You would have to be fairly close and the field fairly strong. Possible but not probable.
