I'm stumped. New brass for my 270 wsm sized em up etc. loaded some and some fit the chamber easily others I could hardly close the bolt.

Not a bullet seating issue because I popped the bullets out and still and problems. Sized to the proper specs...

Any other ideas?

Trim to .020 under coal and full length resize, ensure that you have your die turned down to contact the ram plus at least a half turn more and see what that does for you.

Hey garyn

How are you setting your sizing die? IOW, are you threading it in until it hits the shell holder with the ram up? And then did you leave it there or adjust it further down?

Thanks to Skygod and Woods. That did the trick. I was just kissing the die to shell holder. Not enough...

Now I can concentrate on MD's...

garyn, you don't want to size the case more than necessary, it will overwork your case and reduce your case life. Set your rifle up on the bench and keep chambering the case as you adjust your die in from the point where it hits the shell holder.

IOW, size a case with the die set to where it hits the shell holder, size and try it in your chamber. If it is tight then adjust your die in a very little bit, then repeat trying to chamber the case. Keep sizing and chambering until the crush fit is just reduced and then lock your die in there. That should be about 1/4 turn in but adjust your die in small increments. It doesn't take much to push the shoulder back more than you have to.

You crimping the neck on the bullet?

Are the cases all the same length? If OAL varies, the bullet will seat in the brass at different points, which will affect the crimp if you're crimping.

Too much crimp will result in a tight bolt close.

Size the brass then trim for OAL. All your brass should spec out the same length.

My other question would be. Is all this brass the same headstamp/lot? Mixed lots/headstamps will size differently in the press.
