Anyone loaded 357 pistol bullets in a 35Whelen with any success? If so,any load recommendations? I was thinking that about 10gr of reddot behind a 158gr might work but but got to thinking about how fast reddot is and figured it would be a good idea to get some ideas from you all first. Thanks...

A friend of mine usually loads .357 FMJ 180 g. bullets in his 7600 Remington with very good results; accurate and pleasant to shoot but only for training. He uses Tubal french powders, but certainly much slower burning rate than Red Dot...Lorenzo

13 grains of red dot is the standard charge for reduced loads in '06 size cases, so it should be fine in the Whelen. By comparison, I use 10 gr. of bluedot in my 223....... For a reference http://pub86.ezboard.com/fmilitaryfirearmrestorationcornerfrm34.showMessage?topicID=162.topic If you are worried, buy 100 pistol primers, and work up charges with them. They show pressure much earlier than rifle primers (softer). HTH, Dutch.
