Does anyone know where I can get load data for using WCC 844 surplus powder? I was told I can use H335 data. The bottle has data for 5.56 but I would like to see if I can use it in other rounds like .308 and 260 Rem.

Try looking at what it says about WC844 and all of the other milsurp powders on these sites:

http://www.iidbs.com/hitech

http://www.gibrass.com/

http://www.castpics.net/RandD/load_data/load_data.htm

If one doubts what they have been told about loading with milsurp powder and still feel queasy after looking at these sites, I suggest the reader use Alliant, Accurate Arms, Hodgdon, IMR or that stuff with a V (can't spell it or sillywet either).

Just an opinion of course.

I think you take your chances with surplus powder. I love it though and think the risk is low if you are an experienced reloader. Look at what it is compared to, then start low and see what kind of performance you get as far as pressure signs and velocity. Then you should be able to adjust your loads to the powder and get much more bang for the buck. But like was stated before, if your not comfortable with it, then stick to a canister grade powder.

Thanks TC,
The first site helped the most. I will compare the loads for H335 and Acurate 2230 and start low. Only reason I want to try this is I bought 8 pounds for my AR and just want to try it in some other rifles just to see how it shoots.

Jacobite,

I have been using WC-844 in the 30-30, 7-30, and .223. It shoots very well in all. I am using H-335 data for my particular lot of WC-844. So far there have been no problems so I suspect my lot is very close to H-335 burning rate. It may be a bit fast for the 308 and the 260? Don't know for sure. Regardless, if H-335 data is listed for these cartridges, AND your particular lot of WC-844 indicates using H-335 data, you might find an acceptable load for both. Be careful, that surplus powder can vary much from lot to lot. Good-luck...BCB

BCB,
The Hodgen book shows H335 loads for 260 and .308. I plan to give it a try. I will start low and work my way up.

I use wc852, from pat's reloading. They said it's slow than h414 (this lot) and it says so on the jug. I went 10% lower and worked up from there. Since I have only planned on using it in huge low pressure cases, I felt that was the best bet...

but, damn, I wish there was a rl-15 bulk!!!

go lower than suggested, and work up, but it's still an expereinced reloader's game
