I am working on a load for a new to me .22-250 I have tried some H380, IMR4895 and some WC852, and I'm not really satisfied yet. Now I am thinking about trying some Varget, and I am wondering how it meters. Does it meter real well, like H-380, or do I need to trickle the last little bit like 4895? Thanks for any help or comments.

It is a extruded powder and meters more like 4895 then H380 ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? I've found varget to meter a bit better than that but have always setteled on H-414 for my 22-250 as ball powders meter extremely well. If I was serious about using Varget, I'd set the scale back a quarter grain and meter the loads as I'm not at all anal about super precision powder drops.....they just aren't necessary....but you will get them with the ball powders. Varget may be an extruded powder but it's a fairly fine grained extruded.....give it a try.....you'll like it! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Both H-4895 and IMR-4895 are rather fine-grained stick powders that meter fairly well, assuming you have a pretty good powder meter. I find that they meter within less than one-tenth grain from my Redding. Numerous .22-250 shooters have independently settled on 35 to 35.5 grains of 4895 under a 55 grain bullet as their go-to load. If you haven't tried that combination don't abandon 4895 before doing so. Of course, there are plenty of potentially good powder/bullet combinations which work well in the .22-250, but I've found the 4895 recipe to work well in every .22-250 I've tried it in.
