just picked up the ap hornady press... never used a progressive press before. can anyone post some pitfalls to avoid, helpful advice, etc so i can refer back to it when i am setting it up and using it? thanks!

step one, PLEASE RTFM and look on youtube .. there's plenty of how to on it ..

the primer is the ONLY weak link in the system.. CALL THEM with ANY trouble.

do NOT over tighten the capscrew holding the primer tube down

priming is the only problem i have had too it is a great press so far

I just purchased one a few weeks ago and I did have a couple of minor issues from the start-

* The indexing pawls on the bottom of the press which advance the star wheel are VERY touchy- Hornady is serious about that one in the manual. I had to adjust mine because it was out-of-time from the get-go and I only moved the screws one flat (1/6 turn) at a time until it was good to go.

* The primer feed shuttle guide rod may need to be adjusted slightly for reliable feeding- I had to move mine outward a very small amount as it would not feed about 20% of the time or so.

* Make absolutely certain to remove ALL traces of assembly anti-rust coating which Hornady packs the LNL AP in; this is especially true with the powder drop (you will get very inconsistent charge throws if this is not done thoroughly)!

* If you plan on doing a lot of reloading regularly with your LNL AP I would recommend purchasing several spare shell retaining springs as they tend to break at the most inopportune times. They're fairly inexpensive if you shop around.

After these minor hiccups, though, I have been very pleased with my LNL AP- and I'm brand new to reloading (flame suit on because I didn't start with a single stage )

Jim, I think TJ anticipated our problems better than we realize. The government made private enterprise subject to the banking industry with the passage of the IRS act. The process is not quite completed. He should have paid closer counsel to GW and BF.
