Does anyone have experience with GS Custom bullets out of SA? I would be interested to hear testimonials on the bullets performance etc. especially in comparison to Barnes, Etips, etc.

Also, besides Barnes bullets, does anyone know of any non-lead handgun bullets?

Thanks for your help
Curtis

Hi Curtis,

I've used some of the GS Custom solids for dangerous game. They wouldn't feed well in my .460 Wby, but not much does so I wouldn't blame the bullets. They nearly shot through the same hole at 100 yards though. Honestly they weren't easy to get so I've never tried their expanding bullets (I don't recall seeing them on the CA approved list for my purposes anyway).

As to the non-lead pistol bullets we're just about stuck with Barnes. You may want to pull up some of my old posts to see my rants about them.

The only other choice I've found are the copper bullets made by Mag-Tech. As I recall they make them for the .357 and the .44. They're only SLIGHTLY less expensive and a whole lot harder to find than Barnes so I don't know if they're a big advantage. I've recently switched to them in the .44 Mag. because I think the Barnes hollowpoint is too large for the boars we use them on. So far I'm happy with them on paper but haven't gotten to bail myself out of a situation with a wounded pig yet so I don't have a field report.

Best of luck,
Kyler

Thanks for your help. It looked like the GS Bulltets were well made and accurate, but it's nice to hear it from the voice of experience.

I noticed that we are practically neighbors Kyler, so i guess I would be shooting at the same boars as you. Did you have problems with the Barnes hollow points in 357 mag?

Hey Curtis, If you use the "Find" button above, you can find a good many threads on this Board about them. Plus, do the same on the Medium Board" and there will be a bunch there too.

The guy that makes them, is a regular contributor here at AR and is a fine, bullet savvy fellow. Once you locate some of those threads, you will be able to appreciate his wisdom.

Best of luck to you.

Curtis,

Other than getting two of the .357 bullets stuck in my barrel trying to work up loads (you've got to love the lack of data available for these Barnes bullets) I haven't tried them on anything. In the 200,000 rounds of reloading I've never had a mess like that. Working up these loads has been a nightmare. Part of my mistake is not dumping all the reliable powders I've collected over the years and switching to the one or two RamShot powders Barns will publish loads for.

They look like a similar design so I would assume the performance, or lack there of, would be similar to the .44's as well.

Kyler
