For Elk, try 175 gr TBBC or Nosler Partitons with 65 gr of 7828. For Deer, try 162 gr Hornady BT with 66 to 68 gr of 7828 or Rel 22. Start under these figures and work up. | |||

I like the 160gr bullets in the 7mag, good compromise for speed, energy & penetration. Give RL22 or IMR7828 a try for max. vel. & good to exc. accuracy. | |||

A partition or failsafe in weights from 140gr to 160gr will do a fine job on game from deer to moose.I have had the best luck with reloader 22. | |||

140 gr. TSX over all the RL22 Alliant allows. 3300 fps, and shoot through elk. HTH, Dutch. | |||

Gentlemen, 175 gr. Nosler Partition, 66.0 gr. IMR 7828, Fed 215 primer. About 2950-3000 fps, excellent accuracy. I've used it on everything from varmints to a couple of large eland, and it always works for me. | |||

Jeeez Steve,..just when I thought you were my kinda guy you go and show me a picture of a FORD   Great shot on that guy. I had great success with the 160gr accubond in WY a few weeks back, as well as the 162gr a-max (cleanly takes deer) and the 150gr NBT. All fly SUPERB from my 1:9.25 twist sendero. Sorry about the disillusionment I caused you! I have been a Ford man for many years. All my trucks have been F-350's, and all my SUV's have been full-sized Broncos.  My 1995 Bronco...in 1994  My 1995 Bronco...in 2004 But, if it makes you feel any better, when REAL cars were made by REAL American manufacturers, I drove MOPAR's (except for a 1970-1/2 Chevy Z-28 prepared by Roger Penske). | |||

OK, it appears RL22 is the the most common "magic powder" So I'll be working up some loads next week, I have just dang near Nosler made, in 120, 140, and 160 grain, balistic tip as well as Partitions, so I am in good shape there. Thank you all for your help! I do have to admit however, I am weak, I also drive Fords. This doesn't mean I'll be kicked off the Forum, does it? | |||

80 grains of H870 over a Fed. 215 primer, behind a 160 grain Nosler partition in Rem. Cases. The load gives me 3112 fps on the average and 3/4 inch groups. Who would want more? This is out of a nickeled Rem 700. Cleanup is easy for those who claim 870 is "dirty". Doug | |||

Good man Ricciardelli.. You too Acsteele.  I have owned Fords since high school and never regretted it a bit.. Anyway Acsteele, Reloader22 and 175gr Nosler Partitions has been a favorite among those that shoot 7 Mag for a long time. I happen to be of the one rifle-one load school because the more familiar you are with a particular rifle and load the more confidence you will have and the better shot you will be under any situation that will be presented to you. The 175gr load is one of the best for elk by far and, by the way Partitions are constructed, will certainly kill deer as well. So if you're rushed for time, develop the 175gr load first, because then you have all the bases covered. If you have time later on to experiment more, then by all means do so. I only use one bullet weight per gun myself.Any partition from 140gr on up will do a fine job on game up to and including elk and moose.I have taken several elk and moose myself with the 140gr partition and my hunting partners have taken many more.They hold together well and offer good penetration as well. | |||

I must agree with stubblejumper, 1 bulletweight for I gun. saves a lot of hassle with mixed up loads, shifting zero's etc. Although I have been told that the 7mm is one of the few rounds that will hold the same zero if a varity of loads are used, any one tried this theory? I fine that the Speer 140gn SPBT @ 3100fps works a treat here on pigs, goats, roo's etc. Cheers, Al | |||

I will second the H870 load with 160 grain bullets! Use a chronograph the 7MM Rem mag can be difficult to get published velocity without high pressure. | |||

Nice Bronco steve  Ahhh I miss the sagebrush already and only been gone 3 weeks. I would have liked to have run ya in my 1980 camaro preparred by ,...me 355cid 4 bolt mains, line bored, shot peened, balanced blueprinted, Pink rods, ARP rod bolts, HV oil pump, 11.25:1 TRW pistons, hooker headers, corvette aluminum heads, single plane high rise intake, holley 700cfm mech seconadaries, comp 282degree cam, 3500stahl, 350turbo trans, 4.11:1 richmond gears, morosso super-brute posi unit   I too have gotten almost 3200fps from factory loads in my 26" barrel. The 7mm mag begs for a handloader to bring it back to pre-lawyer status. It is an awesome round when loaded properly. Minimal recoil and major energy on target,...probably the easiest magnum for anyone to start off with before moving to the pounders. | |||

My buddy shoots 81grns of H870 and a 150 Btip with a mag primer and W/W brass. It shoots 1/2 and leaves large holes. He has shot this combo since Nosler brought out the Btip and it has not left him down on whiteails, they all are bang flop. | |||

I too am a "work up a load for a rifle and use it on everything" sort of guy. I use a couple of hands full of IMR4350 (hey I had 8 pounds of it) and a 160gr Speer Grand Slam. Since working up my load, I've tried H1000 and IMR4831 with no better results so back to 4350. I think the 160gr bullets are ideal for a 7mag. | |||

I figured I should post here, as my 7mm is my favorite gun of all. If I were to only have a single rifle for all types of hunting (even plinking), this would be it... Varmints: 120g Nosler ballistic tip with 65.5g IMR 4831 -OR- Speer 110g TNT hollow point with 68g IMR 4831 Deer: Speer 145g soft point boat tail with 61g IMR 4831 (most accurate bullet/load for my rifle to date) -OR- Speer 160g Grand Slam with 60g IMR 4831 (not so great accuracy with these, but still lethal) All with winchester brass and federal primers. I am starting to work up loads using Re22, but have yet to only test the Noslers... My Weatherby seems to prefer IMR 4831, although I have only tried a few powders. I found it liked it, and stuck with it. Now I am trying Re22 to see if I can get a bit more velocity with the same accuracy of the above loadings... | |||

my new 7mm it is 67.5gr. RL22 with a 140 accubond but the 140 bt shoots the same, in win cases and 215m primers. my old 7mm it was 65.0gr.s RL22 with a 150 swift sirrocco in a win case and 215 primers. RL22 is the powder for the 7mm rem. | |||

Steve,..how was the cuda in the 1/4? I got 12.80sec through the pipes, on street tires.  Man I hopped a bunch of beer bottles with the front tires You sure got some good boys turnin wrenches for ya,..ifin ya ever want to start a race team,..the pace car driver at Dover had to tell me to back off when I drove a retired NASCAR Ya know,..just thought I'd offer to help out | |||

"Pet loads for 7mm RM?" My pet loads have been 66.0 Grn. R22 w/ 160s and 69 Grn. H4831 w/ 140s. I would have to say R22 has been the most accurate powder out of my 7s. Good Luck! Reloader | |||
