I get great results using the max. recommmended load for my 308. 1/2-1/4MOA.
When I use the minimum - I get 2.5-4"
All factors are the same except powder charge. Similar results with 243. I would like to have some flexiblity using this calibers. Any Ideas?

That was little information of powder and bullet but my guess for a solution is that you change powder to a faster for the reduced loads /

Chappy,

I think you are seeing two effects (and maybe more ). 1) The max loads usually exhibit smaller velocity variations than min loads. and 2)The slower loads will cause the bullet to exit at a different point in the barrel vibrations.

If I was getting your results at max loads I would stop messing about with it and shoot them!

If you want reduced recoil try shooting a lighter bullet that gets you the same barrel time as your max load.

Tell us what you're trying to do, and maybe we can help. Are you wanting to teach a youngster to shoot?

Don

Concerning the reduced loads - I have noticed that I get pretty much the same results using BLC-2 and Varget in 243 and 308. I am really just curious as to the reasons for this result.
Great results with Maximum load and poor with the lowest.
308 is Rem.700 PSS
243 is 700VLS

Chappy,

Welcome to the forum.

It depends how slow you would like your velocity to be.

For speeds below 2000 fps, I suggest you use some of the pistol powders.

We have used Green Dot and Unique with extremely good results.

If you are looking for something in the 2000 fps range, I have had decent results with the SR powders. See the Speer manual for loads. HTH,Dutch.
