im reloading 110 speer hollow points in my m1 carbine newly aquired.. to get the crimp to flatten out on the case so it will stop jamming i chamfer the outside of the case to knock off the sharp edge of the case.. the factory bullets either have taperd cases or they are smashed into the harder ball ammo.. will chamfering be ok or do you guys have a better idea.. the reding dies also needed to be altered on the seater with a drill bit so it didnt deform the soft nose bullets quite so much.. heavier loads and a good oiling seemed to also make the action much smoother and have more bullet insertion power.. any tips appreciated.. thanks dave.. hunter, blackpowder shooter, photographer, gemology, trap shooter, duck hunter, elk, deer, etc..

I've loaded tens-of-thousands of .30 Carbine cartridges, for M-1 GI Carbine, Marlin 62 rifle, and Ruger Blackhawk. I have never had to chamfer the inside or outside of the cae mouth. I have never had to trim the case length. All I did was set-up my RCBS carbide dies, load the cases and finish with a taper crimp.

Could be the magazine. Many different companies manufactured the mags. Some may be a little less reliable.

I have the problem with my bullets not feeding out of the magazine. I used 3 different magazines( US Army 15 rounds) and I think that the recommended AOL of 1.680 of the cases is too long. I reduced the powder charge from 14.5 GR. W 296 to 13.2 and seated the bullet to 1.650. I will try to shoot next week and see what it does.
