Can anyone point me to an online source for 350JSP 45-70 loads using 3031? My Lee manual has data for 300's & 405's, but no 350's?? Guess I could just look to the middle ground.... Recently turned in a 0.75" group @ 100 w/ my #1 using the following load: Cast Performance 405GC / 47.0 IMR3031 / Starline Brass / Fed Lg Rifle Match primers Tried 45.0 & 49.0, but the 47.0 was the ticket. For the record, these loads were 2.0 grains reduced from published data because of the Starline thing... Any input welcomed. Thanks in advance! I don't have the manual myself, but had somewhere a couple of copied pages from somebody else's that showed specifically load data for No. 1 and 3 rifles since they can take higher pressures than the lever guns. I have a load that seems good in my No. 3 but have never chrono'd or done grouping. just know from what it does on the shoulder that it would work if I ever hunted with it. of course I save these rounds for when I am having fun. :-) I'd say look around for a loading book that has the seperate data for the Rugers. quote: I've note the separate sections. Personally, I'm most interested in accuracy & effectivness on game in this area. Deer & hogs mostly. Couple of large exotics on some of the ranches, but I feel that the 405 load detailed above would fill the bill - at a realistic range. Guess if I was headed for grizzley country, I might be a bit more motivated to explore catagory #3. Regards - GCF "Sometimes you make eight - Sometimes you hit dirt"

quote: Thanks for your input, but if you don't mind, an additional question: The current buzz dictates using 2.0 grains less for any given 45-70 load using Starline. What is your take on that? Regards - GCF "Sometimes you make eight - Sometimes you hit dirt"

My feelings are the same regardless of the firearm used or the components selected... Start near the lower end and work-up gradually until either the level of performance you desire is reached, or the first sign of excessive pressure is reached. Naturally you should stop at whichever comes first.

Gents - Very much obliged for the input. Any thoughts on the load density / accuracy relationship w/ this powder in 45-70? My best results w/ the 405 load were with a full (but not compressed) case. Regards - GCF "Sometimes you make eight - Sometimes you hit dirt"
