I have been paying attention to find inconsistancies in my reloading. One that I have noticed is when sizing the case, I feel different pressures raising and lower the press arm. I use RCBS case lube outside and a powder inside the neck. What can I change to be more consistant? Different lubes? Thanks

What you are likely feeling is the variation in hardness and the amount of case expantion from fireing in your brass. Emperial wax may help slick up the feel some but the effort needed to size will probably stay the same.
I wouldn`t worry about it.

I have used several different case lubes. I have come back to RCBS… I lube the inside if the neck and there is still more effort needed lowering the case than Raising it… I also believe it is the Neck tension and the expander ball… I have noticed my Forster dies are a bit smoother than my RCBS. I don't think it is an issue unless alot of force is required...

I use spray lubes (except for Hornady's "One Shot). I simply tumble my brass for 20 minutes or so, take Midway's pump spray and give three pumps into a large zip lock bag. Three handfulls of brass (about 100 cases) get dropped in and then sealed and shaken up for a few seconds, dump the cases onto an old plate and I'm ready to go. Works real well and is fast. Don't spray the lube into the bag with the brass already in it as it tends to get lube down inside the necks.

Chain: Throw that RCBS Lube into the street and run over it with your vehicles!
It IS the worst lube I have ever had anything to do with!
It is absolute crap!
Then go buy yourself some Imperial/Redding Sizing Wax and say goodbye to your reloading (resizing) "inconsistencies!
Just rub your "waxed" finger onto the mouth of the case and you will soon (next to immediately!) have smooth sailing with expander ball drag.
I have tried at least 3 (three) different dry inside neck lubing powders - poor results!
Imperial Sizing Wax works PERFECTLY!
A quick swipe of your "waxed" fingertip on the body/neck of the case and your troubles melt away!
You are done just that fast "lubricating" your case and neck.
No two step procedure needed with the Imperial Wax!
On second thought make a small fire and see if that RCBS Lube burns!
About once a year I have occassion to "lend a hand" to new reloaders - solving their problems. And the first thing (and usually only thing!) I suggest (mandate!) they change out is getting rid of the RCBS Lube!
Its simply so HORRIBLE in so many ways I won't take the time to list them here!
Suffice it to say - the Imperial Sizing Wax is SO superior to the RCBS Lube (and every other type lube I have tried as well!) that the giant Redding Reloading Company bought them out and now markets this splendid product under their name (Redding Imperial Sizing Wax).
Russ Haydons Shooters Supply sells it among countless other "quality" reloading component selling stores and mail order places!
My "vision" (fear!) of HELL is having to reload for the rest of eternity WITH RCBS Case Lube!
Throwing that stuff in the garbage is simply to good a death for it!
Use dynamite to vaporize it!
Use acid to dissolve its presence!
Do anything radical to destroy it and never buy any more!
ALL manner of reloading problems have disappeared for me completely since I started using the Imperial Sizing Wax!
And as an ADDED bonus - I feel (but can not prove!) my brass longevity has increased since I started using it so long ago.
Hurl that RCBS Lube off a cliff!
ASAP!
Hold into the wind

Come on VarmitGuy, tell us hoe you really feel. Its ok, don't hold back.

Just kidding. I had been wondering the same thing about my sizing, I will give the stuff a try.

Do I understand you right that you use this on the inside of the case mouth?

I am a newbie at handloading so bear with me.

I like the Lee Lube.

It's water based and drys quickly. will not harm your powder and comes off w/ a quick wipe. I can lube several thousand cases w/ one tube. It works dry or wet but, it drys quickly so most of the time it's dry going into the die. Very easy stuff to clean off the case after sizing.

I wipe on a thin layer of the Lee lube w/ my finger tips then I run a Q-tip around the inside of the neck that has a thin layer of Lee lube on it. Size em', wipe off w/ a hand towel, and run a plastic bottle brush inside the neck. Quick and easy and hasn't given me a lick of trouble.

Another good thing is it's cheap, sometimes Midway runs it for 1.99 a tube.

Good Luck

I feel a bit more strongly than VarmintGuy about the greatness of Imperial sizing die wax, but he did cover the high points!

Which one?? there are two ya know. If you're refering to the case lube 2, I'd hafta agree! But if you're talking about the RCBS case slick spray, IMHO you're wrong.

I've been using the case slick for some time when loading rifle with my dillon 650 through the case feeder. I toss them in a tub, spray them a couple squirts and shake them around. Then repeat. It gives them a coating and some gets inside the necks. Since it DOES NOT affect powder/primers, no problemo if it's inside the cases. Sizeing effort is about what I experience with imperial, WITHOUT the mess/gunked up fingers. i'd quit reloading if I had to pick-up each case and rub it before sizeing.

After loading ten-fifteen minutes in the tumbler with bare corn-cob removes it completley.
