I just ordered a Winchester M70 Safari Express in 416 Rem Mag and will have it in my hands in about 3 weeks. I will be reloading for it. Dies, brass, etc. are also on the way.

The loading manuals I have show H4895, H380, IMR4064, IMR4320, and RL15. I would like to
hear about your experiences with these and other powders. I have run them through my Quick Load program and RL15 seems to get the job done best with the least pressure.

I was also investigating other powders with Quick Load and H414 looks promising. Any specifics about H414 would also be appreciated.

David, I think you will find most 416 Rem. owners like Reloader 15 the best. My friend has a 416 Rem. and Reloader 15 gives the most velocity and the best accuracy in his rifle.

If I was starting out I would try RL-15. I have used H380, VV-N540, and surplus IMR4895. All shoot well in my rifle. I'm broke or I would have bought some RL-15 this spring. I get the surplus IMR4895 for under $8/lb, and it works well (2450 fps), so it's hard for me to justify the RL-15.

I had to firelap my M70 twice and still had copper fouling problems. I hope yours acts better. Mine is accurate with every bullet I've fired in it though, .5 to .75 MOA for most bullets at reasonable loads. It seems to be getting "broken in " after roughly 500 copper-jacketed rounds. The H380 (and 350 gr. Speer) seemed to foul less than the rod powders, may be an argument for H414 as well.

I recently tried some GS Custom bullets (by the way Gerard, you 'send them' to Saeed and I pay full price?? As ever "them that has, gets." At least mine is an unbiased opinion.) I was very impressed with the 380 grain FN. It will be my solid of choice.

The 350 gr Speer is a good practice/break-in bullet. The 375 gr. cast-lead from www.beartooth.com is a good fit for the factory chamber if you like to tinker around. It also is an even cheaper practice bullet.

I have tried most of the powders mentioned on this thread in my .416 and settled on the one that hasn't been. I have had very good velocities at reasonable pressures with Varget.
