What powders give the best velocities with 180's in the '06 ??? Also what are your top velocities?
Have you found your best accuracy with max loads or at lower levels ??

Thanks

Rancher,

Funny you should ask, I just bought some 180 gr. bullets for the 06 also. I haven't started reloading them yet, but I plan on trying IMR 4831, 4350, Rl 19, H414, IMR 4064, perhaps some other powders.

I have a 22" bbl so that will affect powder performance.

I wil be interested in seeing what responses you get.

Good luck!!!

Mike

I get a measured ~2700 fps with 60 grains of Reloder 22 under a Nosler 180 grain Ballistic Tip. For comparison out of the same rifle, with a 22" barrel, I get ~2775 fps using the Hornady 180 grain Light Magnum loading. BTW The Hornady loads have a stated velocity of 2880 on the box.

I shoot 180 grain Sierra Spitzers at 2725 fps off 56.5 grains of IMR 4350 using a Remington 9 1/2 primer. Bullets seated 0.020" off the lands (3.758" Sinclair comparator reading). It's a lightly compressed load if I piur the powder right in, but I use a ling drop tube, and the powder barely rattles when I shake a loaded round. I don't do a lot of accuracy assessment (and what I get with my rifle is all but irrelevant for yours), but I have shot 3" groups prone at 300 yards. Group size and velocity spread are considerably greater at 57 and 57.5 grains. It's kind of strange, but the average velocity (10 shots each, same day, conditions) doesn't go up with a grain more powder. I'm happy with this load.
