Hi, I'm new to the site and just started reloading my 223 rem. I use RCBS stuff and I'm having a problem with the powder throw not being accurate. I use H322 and it seems to stick up in the throw by static electricity. any suggestions would be great.

clean it well.....use alcohol or acetone etc.....sometimes these things have rust preventive crap in them as some are in warehouses for a spell..... Not sure about RCBS but I had one from Hornady that was like cosmoline coated..... /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I've never had the need to try it, but it's said that if you wipe the the measure down inside and out with a clothes dryer sheet, it will "de static ize".

Don't use acetone on the plastic! Dryer sheet is a good idea. RCBS Uniflo has two measuring insert "cores" -- one for rifle and one for pistol. The pistol insert provides for better adjustment on small handgun charges. The thing I learned for accurate throws with a Uniflo is that the handle needs to be tossed in one snap . . . Up, Down. If you hang up the throw, you'll get variations. Stick powder gets caught between the drop chute and the core/insert die (Whatever it's called.) A snappy throw will keep the stick powder from hanging up and help you get an accurate measure. I've mixed powders -- same brand and number -- from two different containers. Moisture content varies from one to the next and so the volume remains the same while the weight varies. RCBS will send you the second insert at no charge. It's nice to have both of them.

get a dryer sheet and it will go away

I can say from experience that acetone & Uniflows don't go well together - took me ages to polish the inside of the powder reservoir smooth again. I found using the RCBS baffle plate improved metering accuracy..... .....then I bought a Chargemaster combo & haven't used the Uniflow since.

I had an RCBS, got rid of it. I then got the Lee "Perfect". I've been happy ever since.

NO to the acetone, it will start to dissolve the hopper. A damp clothe with a bit of Dawn Dish Soap with fix the static problem.

My powder measures are all metal.....none have any plastic parts in them and the comments about acetone are dead on the mark if there are plastic parts in your powder measure....my apologies if I led you wrong. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I don't believe in powder measurers or throwers.I always use a plastic spoon and a aluminum funnel to measure my charges.I know all my loads are as accurate as hell and it cost me less.

The dryer sheet works fairly well. I keep one in the reservoirs of my measures and also in the box where my funnels are kept. If the enemy is in range, so are you. - Infantry manual

When ever polishing IE Wiping out a plastic hopper ,Never use Acetone . Simply use a dryer cloth or paper towel cotton cloth . Then take a small coil of copper wire with the long run of wire too the ground . Any piece of copper wire long enough to make a couple of simple turns with and it's lead long enough to Ground too a Known grounding source will remove any static Electricity . Just don't do it with powder in the hopper ,make sure coil touches plastic THEN ground the wire end !. I have blown Arc bolts of static Electricity 5-6 Ft. when releasing parts from molds Man it bytes !!!. So I simply attach a grounding wire too the molds edge and ground the wire it flows too the ground and not ME ...

"static guard" comes in a spray can. i spray it on a paper towel and then clean the hopper, etc.
