I have been following alot of the threads that mention the Barnes TSX bullets. When I first started reloading back in the mid 90's I tried the Barnes X bullet with little succeces,as far as accuracy is concerned. I avg. grouns in the 2" range and was never happy with them. I have no doubt that they (TSX) perform on game. But, are they as accurate as I read on this page. What makes them so? How bad is the following? Do they have to be seated .5 - .7 off the lands and can they be loaded just a tad bit hotter?

The TSX foul no more than other jacketed bullets, the groves help to prduce minimal fouling.
They are very accurate check out this link:

I've tried Barns TXS bullets in the following cartridges: .375 H&H Magnum, .222 Remington, .22-250, .30/06, .308 Winchester, .458 Lott and .460 S&W Magnum. In all except the .460 S&W Magnum I got what I consider to be usable hunting accuracy but not as good as with other bullets. I don't know why I keep trying them.

It's a fact though that some get excellent accuracy with them. I must not have hit upon the right combination. The bores of the guns have been impeccably clean, I tried different seating depths, etc. and still haven't gotten lucky.

They've shot pretty well for me at 100yds:

And even at 300yds:

Obviously I don't always shoot groups like these but do so often enough you can see the potential. TSX's can be as or more accurate than any other premium hunting bullet and perform on game like sticking a light saber through them. IMHO TSX's and Accubonds are the two first choices in highly accurate premium hunting bullets...............DJ

I've used the 140 grain in my 7 Mag and the 300 grain in my 375 H&H with outstanding results.
The worst accuracy that I've got so far is the 275 grain TSX in my 375 and they put 3 shot groups into 1.25" at 100 yards. The 300 grain TSX average under .75 MOA in my 375 H&H.

In 3 rifles that I have loaded them in I have to seat them .9 from the lands or they don't fit in the magazine box. You can do whatever you want for single fire but I load for hunting and they must fit the box.

So far, I've only begun to try them in a Model 70 7-STW. Early indications are that the 140 gr. TSX is going to be one heck of a performer. I have only fired 3-shot groups with them, so far, as I'm increasing my charge weight & looking for pressures to jump. But I've already gotten some 1/2" -5/8" groups at 100 yds. I started with 140 gr. Accu-Bonds and never could get too far under 1" with them.

Can't say enough about the TSX accuracy. I shoot a lot of them and they have been the most accurate in 20 rifles I reload for except for a pre-64 264 win mag and a Sauer 30-06. In those 2 rifles I have found a slightly better load.

My 270 loves 'em, here's a 4 shot group

this is 5 shot group

my 300 win mag loves 'em, this is 4 shots in the black square

I could do this all night. I have tried many other bullets but none are as consistantly accurate as the TSX, and it's a helluva performer in the field to boot.

Here is a 3 shot group from my 338 RUM @ 100 yards with the 225 TSX. The rifle is all factory save for the muzzle brake I had added....... other groups were similar.

Forget everything about the old X, the TSX are as consistently accurate as anything I've tried for a while. I have one .338-06 that was a 1.25 in. rifle at best with 210 NP, has shot several .3's and .4's and never over .700 with the 210 TSX. I've used them in 7mm, .338, and .257 Weatherby, nothing but great accuracy and no fouling problems.
