What bullets did I buy?

Last month I ordered some things from Mid South and Shooters Supply. One item was 30 caliber 165 grain, bonded core bullets with a red plastic tip. The bullets are longer (1.419") than any other 30 caliber bullets I have except for 200grain Accubonds. They have a large boattail, and two grooves that look like the groves on a Barnes TTX. The grooves are more forward than the grooves on Barnes bullets. In fact, the 2nd groove (rear groove) on these bullets line up with the forward groove of a 3 groove 168 grain Barnes TTX. They are as long as 165 & 168 grain Branes TTX plus the plastic tip. The base of these bullets look just like all of the bases on 3 different Barnes TTX bullets. These bullets are much longer that 165 grain Hornady SST and seem much too long to have any lead inside and only weigh 165 grains. Could they be Hornady GMXs? Anyone else buy any of these? What do you think I have? The one I weigh was 165.5 grains. I have not loaded any of them yet. They were priced very good. I guess I can wait utill I shoot one.

I'd take a hack saw and cut one in half.....see if there's lead inside or if it's an all copper bullet.

The red tip certainly indicates Hornady....but cut one in half to see what is inside.

The description sounds like a GMX, but you describe the bullets as bonded core, and the GMX isn't that. It has no core at all.

I agree. Cut one in half and see what's inside. Bear in mind also that some bullet manufacturers will make different colored tips for the ammo manufacturers.

Thanks guys, but I would rather shoot it. I just answered my own question when I went up the Hornady web site for the GMX. That is what I have but I only paid about SST cost. I may look if they have some more at that price. I think I bought them at Mid South but I need to find the invoice. I try not to keep things like that laying around if you know what I mean.
