What is the latest greatest version. What can you expect from the load data? I hear a lot about hot loads? Is it a all in one package or do you have to purchase add-on's. Thanks Dave

Version 3.9 I "think" is the latest and greatest. about $159. No add on ready to run. I have not had what I consider a HOT load. It is like a manual. You don't start at the top. I think it has more trouble with a straight wall case vs bottleneck. I've found that after taking a load measuring the velocity then tweaking the burn rate a touch to match that velocity that Lott of powder then matches in my other rifles. Lott to Lott variations happen. Neither a manual or program can account for that without adjusting. It is NOT and "do all end all" It is simply another piece of data. For me as a wildcatter gives me something that a manual can't. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Latest version shown on Neco web site is 3.9 listed at $152.95 I find it to be very useful, mostly because I like to shoot calibers that no one lists any more in manuals, or maybe ever did. Like .256 Newton, .38-72 WCF, .375 2-1/2" Flanged or 12.7x44R. I don't have a Newton, but I've taken bison with the others aided by Quick Load... It is also very easy to tweak and customize like ramrod mentions above; or show velocity changes with barrel length, show recoil, even estimate black powder loads. I have not had any problems with it suggesting data that turned out to be over pressure, if that's what you mean by 'hot'. It does somewhat over estimate the velocity produced, if that's what you might mean by 'hot'. See ramrod's comments about tweaking its burn rates to match chrono readings. It comes with a partner program, Quick Target, that calculates exterior ballistics too, like trajectory, downrange vel and energy, line of sight adjustments, all kinds of stuff. I have no affiliation with Neco or the authors of Quick Load, but I do like the product. My only complaint is that it won't run natively on a Mac.

Thanks, Hot around here is an over max load that is considered hi pressure. Dave

Pick up a loading manual from 1970s and see if you can load to their listed max. Probably not. So that data would be "too hot". Now with more lawyers the max loads in manuals continues to drop. I was approached years ago to add my wildcats into one of QL competitors. They in turn gave me the software for free. Bottom line it sucked so bad I requested they remove my wildcats from their data. Is QL perfect. Nope. Does it give you some great starting point data. Yep and allows you to refine to closer match actual. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

If your a newbie, pickup any reloading manual and start with minimum loads, not below minimum loads, but at minimum loads and work up 1/2 gr, at a time until you see signs of pressue and that's another issue but easy to follow. Basically look for a too flat primer perhaps but not always but its time to pay attention, a black ring around a flat primer and you need to cut back a grain, watch for a extractor mark, sticky bolt, crack as opposed to a bang, these are the early signs, cut back a grain or two, from this point on you need to be beyond a newbie.. Thanks Ray, Sound advice at any stage of reloading. Starting off in a new direction. I have reloaded since the early eighties or so. I am considering another wildcat. my last build was a .243 improved 40* shoulder. The new wildcat is still in the planning stages and was just wondering if Quick Load would be a good move for me since I have been fumbling around with all the different information on how to develop one. I have a book on wildcat cartrages and I like em all Dave

If you are planning serious wildcatting don't forget Quick Design. Wish I had it years ago when I was designing. Not building now. Design it then upload to QL and get your calculated ballistics. Hey you only down about $300 in software. Let me know if I can help. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I have never used quick load, inasmuch as every rifle is an inity unto itself, there fore max is just a word..I usually check several reloading manuals and come up with a starting part and the rest is a piece of cake to find MY rifles max load, then cut it a grain or two and done.. With a wildcat and no information tis a different ball game, I usually look at similar calibers, guess and by gosh a bit, "congrudolate by the seat of my pants" a starting load and hopefully have success at going up, not down!! I only recommend this option to myself! but so far so good and at 82 or 83, I think Im over the hump at gett'en er done!
