Can anyone recommend a load or 2 for the 280? I'm looking for loads for both 140 gr. and 175 gr. bullet weights.

I just got a Ruger Hawkeye and am looking for some ideas to try.

Thanks in advance.

My 280 rem. likes the 160g NP. with IMR 4064 the heavier bullet would suggest using a slower burning powder like RL22, My rifle was not as acc. with slower powder. The last deer I took was with the 160g. NP and loaded down to 41g. of 4064 @ about 2500mv. the buck did not take one step after the shot.

I think you'd be missing out if you didn't try Hornady's 154 grain spire point. Plenty stout, that bullet will serve you well from A-E(antelope - elk) 54.0 grains of IMR 4350 should put you around the 2900f/s mark.

My ABolt likes 59 grains of H4831 behind a 140 Nosler Ballistic Tip. Chronos about 2900 fps. I really like this load because it is 100% case capacity. Work up carefully! Jim R

I'm also a 160gr guy but for powders, go slow. My best results, both for accurracy & highest vel., have been w/ slower powders. For the 140gr, H4831sc & IMR4831 are great. For 160gr-175gr, RL22 or IMR7828. Bullets, NBTs are great for accuracy loads but Sierra are good too. My go to load for deer-elk is the 160grNP over 57gr of 7828 for 2800fps+ in my 23"bbl. For the 140gr, I up the charge to 59gr for just at 3000fps. These are in Norma brass w/ Fed.210M primers. Both loads are warm so approach w/ caution.

My mountain rifle in .280 Rem really likes Hornady's 154gr Interloc with IMR 4064 behind it. I have used this bullet for several deer seasons and always been pleased. Prior to using this Hornady bullet I was using 150gr Remington Corelokts. The Remingtons worked great, but the Hornady's were on sale when I ran out of the corelokts. Also, I loaded some 175gr interloc for bear hunting. What I found out was that the 175 gr shot 1.5in below the 154gr. at 100yards. I never have to adjust my sights between bear season and deer season here in Pennsylvania. I got all my load data from an older Hornady manual.

Good Luck
