Hard to beat 53 - 55 (you'll probably end up at 54.5) of one of the 4350's with any decent 130 grain bullet. With 22" barrel, velocities around 3,050 and sub 1" groups are the norm.

Von: I go with 50.1 grs. of IMR-4350 with a 150 gr. Nosler Partition. I seat the bullets 0.010" off the lands. This load can give me close to 1/2" when I do my part & about 3/4" all day long. Seating depth is almost as important or maybe more so than powder type in my opinion. This load is 1/2 gr. below the accurate load listed in the Sierra book. Good luck. Bear in Fairbanks

It seems with this particular gun that the closest I can get the bullet to the lands is .040-.050. This is due to the limiatation of the magazine. This is the first Remmy I have dealt with. I have only dealt with Savages in the past. Do Remmys have a significantly longer throat than say Savages? I havent had any problems seating .020 off the lands with Savages and still fitting the magazine.

So far, 55 gr of IMR-4350 with a 130 gr Ballistic Tip has been the best. Mine has not liked H-4831sc at all. I'm going to try RL-22 next, hopefully tomorrow if it's not raining. I've also tried H-1000.

I agree with the use of 53-55 grains of IMR 4350-my best were 55.5 IMR 4350 w/Nosler 130 Part., and 53.5 gr. w/150 Nosler Part.

I have had good luck with these two loads:
50.0 gr. IMR 4350, 130gr. Hornady SP 3.330" overall length, factory crimp, groups under .50".
54.0 gr. H-380, 90gr. Sierra JHP, 3.190" overall length, factory crimp, 3558 fps., groups even tighter than .50". Rifle used: Savage 110GXP3, glass bedded, Sharp Shooter Compitition trigger and bipod.

I have excellent luck with IMR-4831. I have a 1970's vintage 700 ADL that is fond of Speer 130 grain FB Spitzers and just loves Sierra 140 BTSP, both with a max charge of IMR-4831. Been playing with some 140 grain Nosler BT's and so far the 4831 is more accurate than RL-19 or H450.

With a 130gr use H-414 52.5 to 54gr with a CCI-250 primer. 59gr of H-450 also works well, but that powder has been discontinued.

Von,
My Reminton in .270 shoots a 130 gr. Nosler Ballistic tip pushed along with 53.3 gr. IMR 4350 very well. 100 yard five shot groups at .765. I have no problems seating at .010 off the lands and still fitting the magazine.

Von,
You didnot say what kind of bullet you were loading that had problems with your magazine. Could it be a Barnes or some of the other longer bullets. I couldn't seat barnes or heavy scirrocos in my 300wsm very close to the lands for the same reason.

I was trying to shoot 130 grain Hornady SST's. I used the jam method to establish distance from lands. Neck sized about 1/4 of a case, seated the bullet out far, jammed it in the action, etc. Moved the bullet in about .020. OAL came out like 3.5 or something. I moved the bullet in to 3.450 to give a little clearance in the magazine. I have a major run out problem also. I didnt measure the run out, but it appears to be excessive. Not sure if its my dies or because I had neckdown LC Match brass, but the run out was very noticeable. Seems like the other Hornadys I have tried in other calibers had some run out??

I use my bolt action 270 Win. mainly for big game hunting so l looked for a powder that would produce an accurate load using the 150 gr. Nosler Partition bullet. I found that H4831 loaded to just below maximum gave the accuracy l was looking for. If l was using this rifle for target, varmint and/or coyote hunting l would have tested some lighter weight bullets.

Good luck!!!

The custom 270 I have has a very long throat and because of magazine restriction the Hornady 130 gr SST's will not shoot worth a darn - I talked to Hornady about this and they also felt the extended throat and the long ogive of their bullet was the issue. However, with Nosler 130, and 150 BT's and 160 gr partitions and 130 Sierra BT the gun shoots extremely well with loads of RL22 = 1/2" three shot groups. Tried SC 4831, IMR 4350 , RL19 and the best velocity and accuracy was with RL22. 3150 with 130, 2920 with 150 and 2860 with 160 partition. Even though the 160 gr is a semi spitzer it has BC of .435 which is about the same as a 120 gr 25 cal so it should fly flat and hit hard.

I'm pretty fond of IMR 4831 in this caliber.
54 - 54.5 grains and either a 150 grain Nosler Partition or a 140 grain Barnes X both shoot to about the same point of impact (groups overlap). Pretty good velocity, without excessive pressure. A good, dependable load.
