What is the max OAL for 9.3x62? I checked for max with my CZ550 and I could seat the bullet out and not touch the lands, long before I ran out of magazine length. I have some loaded at 3.455 that go thru the magazine just fine. Fired cases look fine. Am I missing something, or will this be safe in my rifle?

MAx OAL length depends on the bullet you use. For the 285grainer TMR from RWS it should be 82-83 mm. When you do not touch the lands it's fine, you are on the safe side.I certainly would not rely on magazine length for determining head space, this should be done with other methods and you will see that every different load for every caliber you reload will need a different seating depth for maximum accuracy

OAL as listed in the manual is not critical to your gun. As long as you seat the bullet deep enough for the neck to hold it securely (I think its one caliber length or might be two, example in a 308 it would be necessary to seat the bullet at least .308"), it will cycle through your rifle, and the bullet is not touching the lands then it is safe in your rifle. Assuming, of course that the amount of powder, length of the case, etc. is correct.

I guess the manuals put that OAL in the books as a round that will fit any factory manufactured rifle. Like the other measurements which a fire formed case exceeds. Total length of the case is the only measurement listed in the manuals which I pay critical attention to.

The COL spec for the 9.3x62 is 3.29 inches. I also have a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 and I found (using a Stoney Point gauge) that the throat is long. I load the Nosler 286 gr Partitions to 3.35" COL. In my rifle, the Nosler 286 gr Partitions don't touch the lands until the COL is 3.57 inches. As long as your rounds cycle through the magazine, and the bullet is slightly off the lands, then you're fine.

I always make a dummy round to check for max length of any particular bullet. I've read lots of posts and noone was using the full magazine length. I did load and fire a couple of rounds at 3.30 in. over the chrony and the velocity was pretty much the same as at 3.45 in. I'm using 286 gr. Barnes and Nosler partition bullets. Anyway thanks for the reassurance....
