I am loading for a 210 gr Partition with IMR 4350 and Nosler necked up .30-06 brass in a .338-06AI. Starting load is 60 gr I have loaded up in 0.5 gr increments to 62.5 gr. All of my loads except the 60 gr of powder are compressed. I would call the 60 gr load a 100% capacity load. Has anyone else loading this cartridge had this experience(compressed loads) with IMR 4350? Don't really feel like getting my head blown off. Thanks.

Well, not the AI, but I compress loads of RL19 & H4350 in my std. 338-06 for my best loads. It seems top give me more uniform accuracy.

Loadtech calls around 60 100% if your OAL is around 3.34. It calls 62.9 60,000.

When I loaded for a 338-06AI with 210s I used RL15. Also used some real long drop tube Imr4831 loads. Don't remember velocities off the top of my head but I do know RL15 was more accurate.

Do a search I thought AIuser was using MRP & N204 in real compressed loades in a 339-06AI.

I have not tried the 210gr partition in my 338-06 yet, but I woould look into the RL15. It has given me the best accuracy with 180gr AB's.

Once you get your headspace problems solved, consider using N204. It's a high-density, slow-burning, high-energy powder just a bit faster than Normal MRP (roughly equivalent to Re19). With 63 grs. behind a 225 Accubond with a 26" barrel, I'm getting 2875 fps with my .338-06 AI. BUT, this is absolute MAXIMUM. Work up to it, and get a chronograph. Finally, I start with standard '06 cases and don't have any of the problems you describe. Regards, AIU

Thanks for the replies. I have tried RL15 and gotten decent accuracy but it was only the second powder I tried. I just figured I would try one or two more for kicks. RL19 is probably next on the list. I have read that thread by AIuser and found the info very useful. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the powders he uses.

I didn't go back and read it but I believe he was talking about Norma 204 and MRP. I have found that RL22 (at least later lots) matched my older MRP loads. 204 will be real close if not the same as RL19. Norma powders ae more expensive and harder to find. I used MRP for years then it was not available for awhile. I have since reworked my MRP loads to RL22. Most in MY Case were almost a 1 for 1 swap.

Powder Valley, Inc. has Norma 204 in stock, if you want it. N204 is one of the highest density, high energy powders on the market, hence compression is minimal. MRP is a bit slow for the .338-06 AI with a 225 gr. bullet, but it might work well with a 250 gr bullet. Regards, AIU

I fired to compressed rounds today, 60gr thru 63 gr with decent accuracy and no pressure signs. Thanks for the tip on Norma 204, I will look into it.

I almost forgot to mention that another really good powder for the 225 gr. in .338-06 AI is Wincheter 760 - another high density, high energy, double-based powder that shouldn't require much compression. Circa 63 grs should be near maximum.
