Best I can measure I have a 240 Wby with a 1 in 10" twist rate. According to Steve's tables under "All about Bullets" - "Faster than 2800 fps" - .244" I need to shoot a bullet longer than 1.020". First question - do you measure to the bullet ogive or the full length of the bullet. I have some 95 grain BT that measure .065" to the ogive and 1.115" full length and some 85 grain Barnes TSX bullets that measure 1.065" full length and .0610" to the ogive. Second question - do the table apply to the all copper Triple Shocks at all since he says you need a .392 lbs/cubic inch for the table to work. Third question - is it unusual to have a twist rate this fast in a 240 Wby? It's a custom 28" barrel a buddy picked up used and there is no info on it. ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

1/10" twist is pretty standard fora 6mm. The 95gn BT will shoot fine. Unless you want to shoot a VLD desigen of more than 100gn, you will find the 1/10" is fine. Fergus

With high quality bullets, there is really no reason to worry about "too fast" twist, except in some very special circumstances (extreme long range). The extra spin seems to have the added benefit of making light weight bullets more frangible. As far as the copper bullets, remember that required twist rates are about bullet length, not weight. That's where the density factor comes in: it's the average density of standard cup bullets. So, you'd have to convert the weight to length, and then compare that length to you copper bullets. That said, the 10 twist will do fine with the 85 gr. TSX. The heavier ones may (or may not) work in your barrel, depending on speed and elevation. I shoot the 85's through my 12 twist PPC, and they are right on the edge. HTH, Dutch. Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog.
