I would like a couple of loads people have used on Elk.I plan on using nosler bullets, most likely partitions and input/suggestions would be welcome. I would like to be around 2500 fps. Thank you Bruce

sierra game kings 225gr start with 45 gr 748 work up till you gun's max load, and/or you get your 2500 will flat kill ANYTHING in north america, and is my most accurate bullet in 3 different 358s jeffe

My choice would be a 250 gr. bullet loaded as hot as the gun will safely stand, but I seriously doubt you could reach 2500 FPS in a .358. I have four of them and can't do it. I have three rifles in .35 Whelen as well, and 2500 FPS is about the best I can get safely with a 250 gr. bullet. You might make a bit over 2400 FPS with a 225 gr. bullet, but it would depend on what your rifle likes. The latest Nosler manual shows 2528 FPS with a compressed load of IMR-4895 and their 225 gr. partition. That was the highest velocity load they had. Paul B.

Paul the 250 cant get to 2500, we agree.... 2400 is pushing it... but a 225 is a beast of another color... and it hits a little change over 2500 in 3 different barrels... jeffe

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I think I'm going to get both the 225's and the 250's. I've loaded up some 200 hornandys today with h380, due to thats a I have till I can get to the powder store. I need to go heavier. Thanks Bruce

48.0gr BL-C(2) with the 225 partition will put you in the 2400fps range with no signs of pressure. (48.0) is also the max load for the 250's) a good ballance of full case, and nice accuracy in my gun. For anything that you may want more expansion in use the 225 sierra it is great, and would likely also work for ELk if it shot good in your gun.
