New member here, I have been reading this forum for a while and enjoy all the good information on reloading here. I have a 7mm08 Remington mountian rifle and wonder if any of you would share your load information with me. I have been using the 139 g. Hornady. The varget powder seems to be one of the best to use here in WI. due to the huge temp. swings. Any loads you would like to share? THANKS

I'm using 39.5grs. of Varget with the 150NBT, 9&1/2 primer, Rem. brass, out of a Rem S/S, under 1/2" @100 yds for 5 shots, a grain or more with the 139s should work well for ya, just remembered, I loaded some 139s for a buddy with 40.5grs of Varget for his model 7, first 3 shots went a hair over 1/2", go for it. I have been using the Hornady 139 g BTSPI in my white tail loads for years now and it's most accurate and effective. I had trouble getting my Browning A Bolt to shoot small groups with the usual powders until I tried IMR 3031. I have not tried Varget but I can recomend 40.0 g of IMR 3031 with CCI 200 primers in RP cases.

Denny,
varget and 139's (doesn't seem to matter which one) always tend to work out great, at -.0275, if you can get that.

start at a book recommended load, i would start under the aforementioned 39.5... and work up

I use the 139 Hornady sp over 41/42gr of Varget with a Rem 9 1/2 primer. The load has been used in a M7 and in a Walther barreled M700 and shoots sub inch groups in both. The deer here in Michigan never know what hit `em.
Subing a 140 gr BT results in a slightly more accurate load but I`ve never tried it on game.

Denny-

Welcome to AR.com!

My favorite 7mm-08 load is 44 grains of Varget behind a 140 Ballistic Tip.

Super accurate...

Denny, I'm using 42gr of Varget with 140gr Barnes' X new Triple Shock in my Kimber Montana (22" barrel). Gets around 2850 (chroned)fps, and is safe and accurate in my rig. Given my previous experience with regular X bullets, I'd even have confidence on elk with this load.
Note: Barnes X bullets generally have to be loaded about 2 gains less than conventional bullets, and seated back .050" or so to avoid pressure spikes. The new TS seems different. Can be loaded using conventional data to get higher velocities than conventional X's. However, since my setback is determined by the Kimbers short magazine well, I did not experiment with closer set back and am unsure if the .050 setback applies to the TS.

Hi
I have tried all the above combinations with good results, with the exception of IMR3031, I'll have to try that one. The 7-08 seems to be one of those cartridges that shoot almost anything well. Recently I discovered a load for my son's Model 7 that is phenomenal.

120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
44.5 grs Reloader 15
Fed 210 primers
R-P cases
2.800" C.O.L.
2850 fps 15' from the muzzle.

This load shoots three rounds in a 3/8" cluster at 120 yards. ( A little place I shoot close to my house..)

I haven't shot this out at 300 yds yet, but if this load holds acceptable groups there, we might use it for antelope.
