Isn't .30 Rem. interchangable with 300 Savage?

The 30 Rem. is longer 2.050 vs. 1.871
I must be thinking of 300 rem. My grandfather had a Remington bolt action (722?) that was stamped "300 Rem" I believe. He said it was the same as the 300 Savage.
Was the 30 Rem and 32Rem chambered in the old autoloaders that had a barrel that looked like a BB gun? There are several of these @ a local gun shop. They have a shroud that covers the barrel, very strange looking.

wildcat junckie, the old Rem. "fat-barreled" (Browning designed) autoloaders were chambered for the .25, .30, .32, and .35 Remington cartridges, and later, also the .300 Savage. The Rem. 722 was chambered for the .300 Savage at one time, but NEVER for any of the .25, .30, or .32 Remington clan. If your grandfather had a .300 M722, it was chambered for the .300 Savage, and if marked ".300 Remington", it would be valuable to collectors as a mismarked rifle!!
The Old Western Scrounger brass I have is made from necked up .30 Remington cases. I bought 100 .30 Remington cases from Huntington's and necked them up,they work perfectly. Those old Remington hump back auto loaders are about the ugliest rifles ever made, but they are reliable and easy to use.

.32 Rem brass can also be made from 30-30 brass, but it is a kingsized pain. Involves turning the rim off and recutting a grove in the base.I would sell the gun first.

I use .30 Remington brass to neck down for my .25 Remington Model 14. Works like a charm. I've always thought that the .30 Remington case with the shoulder sharpened and moved forward would make a dandy .22 centerfire -- about like a rimless .219 Improved I suppose. It could be shortend a bit and fit in a small Sako, Cooper, or Mini-Mauser action. Oh, well, dream on.

Stonecreek, There is indeed such a round on a shortened 25Rem., it's called the 219 Rimless Wasp. My late uncle who infected me with this "gunnut business" was a big fan of the Wasp--rimmed or rimless. He had a Springfield cut down and shortened to fit the Rimlees Wasp case. When he passed away I tried hard to get that gun and also a mint M70 win. in KHornet. His wife made someone a package deal on his guns for less then half their value. After words she had the nerve to say I should have spoke up louder. Pete
