338 WM with 250 TSX?

Hey guys-

I'm trying to find a load for my 338 WM using Barnes 250 TSX. I have loaded up to 64.5gr H4831SC and it groups just over 1" but tops out at 2375 fps in my 24" tube. I'd like to get the groups a bit tighter and get more velocity. I tried dropping down to 225, but my rifle didn't like those at all, so I am going to stick with the 250s.

Does anyone have any good loads using either IMR 4350, R19, or R22? I checked the Barnes website, and they only list H4831 and Magpro for the 250s, and my Lyman doesn't have any TSX bullet data. Can anyone help me out with what shoots well, or what the max charge is for these powders?

Thanks.

I have a rather accurate .338 WM which shoots the TSX 225 grainers very accurately with IMR 4350. It also does about as well with 250 gr. A-Frames or 240 gr. North Forks using RL 22. Primer is Federal 215.

I'm another one who uses RL-22 in a .338 mag. but my bullet is a 225 gr. North Fork. I'm right at 2800 fps. I dunno what the load would be for your 250 gr. TSX since Barnes doesn't list it. However from the latest Barnes manual I have (#4) the following loads are listed:

IMR-4350 Min - 59.5 gr. for 2396 fps
Max - 65.5 gr. for 2615 fps

Hunter - Min - 57.5 gr. for 2375 fps
Max - 64.0 gr. for 2563 fps

IMR-4831 Min - 59.0 gr. for 2381 fps
Max - 64.5 gr. for 2564 fps

H-4831 SC Min - 59.5 gr. for 2350 fps
Max - 65.0 gr. for 2517 fps

MagPro Min - 64.5 gr. for 2435 fps
Max - 72.0 gr. for 2619 fps

IMR-7828 SSC Min - 63.0 gr. for 2378 fps
Max - 70.0 gr. for 2606 fps

The H-4831SC powder was listed as the most accurate. Think I'd be gettin' a Barnes manual tho. Hope some of this helps.

Zebby,

I have had good results with 73 grs RL 19 and 250 gr speer grand slams...very accurate out of a 24 inch barrel. Think you can go up a bit with this load so have fun experimenting.

Good luck.

Zebby,

Can't help you with the 250s as both my 338s shoot well with 225 grain TTSXs. If the big 250s don't work for ya. You may want to consider tryin the 225s with IMR 4350 (if you haven't already)...that combo worked well in both my rifles.
