Replicating managed recoil loads for 270 Win

I'm trying to build something that duplicates the Federal reduced recoil load for the 270 Win: 145 gr bullet at 2200 fps. (I believe this is a better way of making youth loads than the Remington option of a light 115 gr bullet at 2710 fps.)

The closest I can come up with so far is a starting load of 57.6 gr Accurate 8700 under a 140 gr bullet out of the manual. This would work great for now, but does not leave much room to grow. This powder tops out at 64 gr for 2453 fps. I don't think this is an ideal powder for the 270, but it would definitely work for this specific application. I can't really use it for anything else, though.

Is there a better powder that can span a full range of velocities for a 140 gr bullet, from say 2200 fps up to 2900+ fps? I've read that H4895 is good for reduced loads in many cartridges, but this powder tops out at 42.6gr for 2768 fps at this bullet weight in my manuals, which is going to be missing a lot of potential velocity once this youngster gets acclimated to recoil. If this is a better powder for reduced loads, can you make suggestions for safe charges?

Any other suggestions for building this kind of ammo would be much appreciated.

    I like imr4064 H414, h4895 h4831sc. with 130 or 140gr bullets.
I am not a fan of reduced loads below stated minimums. I have had too many issues with these type of loads.
What will you be hunting? I started my son on a min load of imr4350 and 120gr bullets. He shot several 120# deer with this load and they all went downwith in 50 yards.
I would not be too concerned with velocity, if you develope a load with a powder bullet combination that is a lower pressure there will be less felt recoil.

I tried both the fed and rem 270 reduced recoil ammo for my son to use a couple of years ago, and the rem was much more accurate. The fed was not very accurate at all.

You may be able to tune your handloads to take care of that, but just thought you ought to know.

BTW, the rem ammo worked just fine on an 8 pt for him.

    captain, My 2 cents:

    1) Why not just go with the Federal factory load you like until he/she grows up? Latter you'll have plenty of cases to reload.

    2) If you stay the reloading course - Why not just go with a proven reduced load powder like H4895 and switch to a more appropiate powder like 4350 or 4831 when the time comes? I've found that its just better to use the right powder than to try to make one do all.

I've worked up some reduced loads with various cartridges and can tell you that AA5744 EXCELS at this kind of thing. Good accuracy and close velocity spreads, minus all the 'reduced load' concerns associated with some other powders.
    Just my 2¢

Why do they call it common sense, when it is so uncommon??
