I hunt deer with two semi auto's o6's one a browning and one a Remington. I load for my other rifles but use factory ammo in my semi's. I guess I'm afraid I wont use the powder or do something else wrong that would cause them to malfunction at the moment of truth. I don't have a case tumbler to get the brass realy clean. I do have small base dies and one powder which people say works in semi's imr4064 I found a load in an old magazine that uses 52/4064/150 grn for 2950 in a 22{"bbl. I can't seem to get over this phobia and I have stacks of empty o6 cases in boxes. I hayte to see them go to waste !

Just jump in & do it. You have the dies, any powder from 4895 to 4350 will work fine. You don't need a tumbler either, a cloth w/ some Fitz or fine steel wool works great. You may even find a "magic" load for your self stuffer. thumb

And if you decide not to reload still, you could probably find a buyer for once-fired .30-06 brass.

But I'm with Fred - especially since you've got the small-base die. Go for it! Smiler

It took me a long time to convince a friend of mine that he did not have to shoot factory ammo while deer hunting. Since he has become confident with his custom loads and has taken many deer. He has also found out that a good custom load can out perform most factory ammo.

I do not use the word reload because most people associate it with sloppy home made ammo.
What they don't know or understand is that all bench rest shooters are shooting “reloaded†custom ammo.

You will want to purchase a quality head space guage such as one Wilson makes. It will help you to get the cartridge shoulder and cartridge length correct.

Sorry, reloadingo SAFELY for a semiauto is not that simple or straightforward. Of course NOTHING weird but you must take some precautions and considerations not necessarily neede when loading for a non-repeater

First and foremost look for mechanical flawless functioning. Then go after accuracy. In my opinion do not reverse the order.

1) Take a GOOD look to headspace dimensions
2) Be ready to DISCARD cases after 3 or 4 firings
3) Preferably, run them at low pressure.
4) Use of "small base" dies is recommended but not a must

Good luck!

My Brother in law has been reloading for his Browning BAR in 30-06 ever since I`ve known him,(over 20 yr) with no problems I`ve ever heard him mention. He liked the rifle enough he picked up another in 338, and as far as I know loads for it also.
Stay with med burn range powders and follow a manual for loads. The OAL MAY affect feeding as will the possible need for a SB sizer but I`m quite sure my B- in law uses a std die with his `06.
