Apart from Lapua, is new commercial brass (Winchester, Remington etc) annealed when you buy it?? Normally, commercial brass does not show any evidence (discolouration) of being annealed, but maybe it has been processed (polished) to get rid of the discolouration??

New military brass (if and when you can get it?) is annealed. Correct??

I'm primarily thinking of .223 Rem brass, but other brass might also be of interest.

Most if not all are annealed. They just polish them afterwards.

The military specifies that the colors remain, as proof that the annealing step was done.
Comericial brass is polished post-anneal to remove the colors.

ALL brass is annealed several times during manufacturing. The quality of the final neck anneal is so important to it's function in automatic weapons military (and Lapua) brass doesn't polish (or pickle in an acid bath) theirs to show it was done properly....................DJ

Yep, all of it is annealed and cleaned up except 458WinMag brass where the discoloration due to annealing is left... at least it is for Winchester brass.
Cheers...

...as a proof that annealed area is not too close to web area (to avoid blow ups)
