Hello Guys

I have a hundred new Lapua 9.3x62 cases and no 6.5/06 (or anything else to form them from to hand).

Do you think the 9.3's would neck down ok - obviously I'd have to trim, and watch neck thickness.

I've not undertaken such a radical reform before, what steps do you think would be necessary ??

Thanks

Sell your 9.3s and buy some 270s or 25-06s. Your brass is far harder to get and valuable. If you really want to do it, I would use 30-06, (35 whelen if you have it would be nice) then 270, then 6.5, and you would have to ream the necks. And you might have to anneal along the trip. Too much work when there is an easier solution.

Pretty much the same thing dpcd said.. I,d normally end up payin around 110-120 for 100 pieces of Lapua 9,3 brass, 100 pieces of Privi 25-06 brass would be around 40 bucks. Lot cheaper, and working the brass a lot less...

As the other two guys say...this is like filing quarters down to make into dimes!

Or, as you are in NZ, filing 50c coins down to make into 20c coins!

In other words a lot of time and effort to make something that's going to be worth less than the original product you made it from.

Yea - I know, I guess I should try and sell the 9.3, I have plenty of it and someone else might value it.

Tentman that is sacrilege to think of necking down Lapua 9.3 x 62 brass which of course would work but no,no,no. Sell the 9.3 and buy 25-06 brass which with a simple pass over the 6.5 expander and you are ready to shoot, no trimming, no neck thickness to worry about. Or just seat 6.5 boattails straight into the 25-06 brass, no need to size up first.

I just load and shoot 25-06 brass in my 6.5-06 with full power loads with no need for fire-forming, in my chamber anyway.

You will have a definate bulge at the base of the rounds. Sell or trade them for 06 brass that should be easy to do..

Would an 06 die even size the web area enough to allow the 62 case to chamber? Never tried it but would think you would need a lot of leverage.

As usual just my $.02

.270 Win shooters do not seem to reload much.
See if you can find one with some brass to spare.
They will need trimming but will be really easy to form.

How much does it cost to ship 4 or 5 lbs between the US and NZ?

Ha - always funny how things work out - I was talking with an old friend and he recale another long time aquaitance who had "stopped shooting" his 6.5-06, long story short I now have gratis (I'll pass him some good beef) a whole heap of 6.5-06 brass, all weight sorted, AND another set of dies.

Shooting folk are good folk.

Cheers

Hip Hip Hooray! !

Wow, you had me seriously concerned there.
2 awesome rounds in themselves. Would make a great 2 rifles in a practical battery of sporting rifles.
But oh man there is soooooo much brass that would work better than possibly the best 9.3x62 brass.

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I didnt know you could buy factory ammo in this caliber any longer...

Nice thing about the .270,.30-06,.25-06
is you can can mix all the brass and reload it all 3 different ways with out a hitch.
