Anyone used H4831 SC, wondering how it throws a charge compared to H4831 or IMR-4831

I've been using H4831sc for three years, and it throws a charge almost as smoothly as ball powder, a real pleasure to work with after using the old logs like basic H4831 and IMR 4831. By some and be happy. The ballistic performance appears to be identical.

H4831SC meters better than IMR 4831 but it doesn't matter to me as I weigh each charge anyway.

Per Hodgdon, H4831 and H4831SC are equivalent. They don't say IMR 4831 is equivalent to the other two but it's close. If you look at various cartridges in a loading manual, you'll find with some the recommended load range for IMR 4831 is excactly the same as for H4831SC but in some instances the recommended range for IMR 4831 is 1 or 2 grains less.

The bottom line, you can work up a load with IMR 4831 and know that if you choose to use H4831SC instead in a medium to large case, you'll probably need 1 or 2 grains more powder for an equivalent load.

IMO the SC runs thru powder measures quite a bit better than the standard H-4831.....but it still has to be weighed as the accuracy still isn't good enough. I only use the SC anymore.....but it's not what it's cracked up to be....

H4831SC has proven to be an excellent powder for me. I currently use it in several cartridges with jacketed bullets; .243/100, 6.5x55/140, 6.5-280/120, 7x57/175 andthe 30-06/190. I also use it in several cartridges with heavy cast bullets. I throws accurately enough I do not weigh the charges except for the 6.5-280. It give excellent accuracy and very consistant SD and ES. However, the really nice thing is you can get a lot more of it into most standard cases that with the old 4831.

I prefer the SC over the original as it meters much more smoothly.
