I have been reading several loading manuals for different powders. In one manual one powder is listed as "RX-7", is this actually "RE-7"? My other manuals list "RE-7" with basically the same information, but I want to make sure I am not just guessing. Thanks, Charlie

Look in the front of the reloading manual. Most have a page that shows what the abbreviations mean. Some manuals use RE(followed by the number) for the Alliant Reloader series of powders, some use RL, the manual you have may in be using RX for the Alliant Reloader powders.

Some do refer to the Reloader series as RX instead of RE. Why??

Rx v. Re is not much to worry about when everybody else misspells Reloder, anyways. Don't mix the data for the Rx-7 turbo powder with the regular normally aspirated version. The turbo is much faster. Lyman uses Rx for Reloder. Why? Because they can, I guess. People are like that. Why do some use "mould" instead of "mold"? "Leade" instead of "Lead"? "Potatoe" v. "Potato"? 351M means "Midland" or "modified"? Who cares, same parts, same vegetable, same thing, but don't try and tell some people one or the other, they are set in their ways for whatever reason. The original Hercules series was referred to as RX because they used the pharmaceutical reference for prescription (Rx) as an "slogan" to indicate that they were "just what the doctor ordered for accuracy" or some such. The powder was spelled with an X superimposed on the R's. I haven't looked at any late production to even notice if the logo has changed. Anyhow, today's Alliant powders are made in Europe and only mimic the old American-made Hercules line in chemistry and performance. I still abbreviate them as "RX", but maybe that just dates me. I also remember when there was an RX-11 and an RX-21, also. Curiously, Alliant made their new number 19 slower than the old 21. (No, I'm not old enough to think that the best powder ever made was Hi-Vel No. 2. I'm just old enough to remember that there was such a thing.)
