Shot a couple of loads over the chrono today with VihtaVuori N550 propellant in my 404 Jeffery, 24" barrel. Northfork 380 grain softpoint, 86 grains of N550, Fed 215 primer: 2400 fps. Barnes 400 grain TSX, 81.5 grains of N550, Fed 215 primer: 2260 fps. I think either of these would work in the real world. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Wink, if I recall, I was getting about 2260 fps with a 400 grain Woodleigh and 75 grains of Reloder 15 in my CZ .404. I wanted to put together a load that more of less duplicated the original ballistics. Eighty three grains of IMR 4831 gave me 2153 fps with that same bullet. That 400 grain TSX sure is long isn't it? Thanks WInk. I am quite happy w/ 380grNF @ 2250fps for my hunting needs. I also load IMR4831 @ 84gr to get that speed & it has proven a good killer going 2 for 2 on buffalo w/ one shot drop each. THe 380grNF can certainly handle 2400fps. I have not tried the TSX & probably won't. I have enough of the NFs to last me several more trips across the pnd if I go again or when I go again. ..and it doesn't leave much room in the case. I think 2260 fps is about all you can get with that bullet in the 404 Jeffery without getting into high pressure country. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.
