Hi all, new to this forum. Can someone tell me whether the .257 115grn Nosler Partition has a canalure? I have been given some ammo which is apparently loaded with these projs. I had thought that .257 NP didnt have a canalure, but the ones I have here do?

Thanks vapodog. The reason I asked is that I have a box of Federal premium ammo (25-06 115gn NP)and the bullets all have canalures. Is this something that federal or nosler would do for the factory loads, perhaps?

I have some factory (Federal) 210 gr Nosler 338 loads with cannelures. Off-the-shelf Nosler bullets do not have them.

Nosler does not put cannelures on their bullets that they sell for reloading.

However, when they make bullets for ammo manufacturers like Federal they put cannelures on the bullets so that they may be crimped.

Some times when I buy "seconds" from Nosler they have cannelures on them.

Not exactly! They do have cannelures on their 170 PT made for 30-30. But of course they are made to be crimped for the magazine. capt david troll

R Flowers is correct: Many bullets that Nosler produces to supply to loading factories are cannelured. So it is impossible to tell whether a bullet is a Nosler or some other make just by the presence or absence of a cannelure. As R Flowers points out, many of the Nosler "seconds" are overruns of bullets supplied to loading factories and will have a cannelure.

Many people claim that there is no difference in the accuracy potential of a cannelured vs. uncannelured bullet, but how many match bullets are normally cannelured? Maybe it's just unconscience prejudice, but I seem not to get as good accuracy from the cannelure Noslers as their uncannelured counterparts.
