I'm tyring to work up a 7mm-08 load w/ 140 gr. TSX's over Varget. I've got a couple of different manuals but don't have a Barnes. Their website states they don't have any data for the TSX yet, but to use their data for the X-bullets. Does anyone have their data for the 7/08 140 gr. X-Bullet using Varget that they'd care to share? Thanks, Y.B.

The Barnes manual no.3 for the standard 140 grain X-bullet for the 7mm-08 lists a 36.5 grain minimum and 40.5 grain maximum with Varget. The velocities associated with these loads are 2467 amd 2737, respectively. Varget, Win 760, and Norma 204 are the only powders of the 19 shown that are indicated as preferred. FWIW, I've had good succes loading Barnes bullets when using the preferred powder from the manual. Regards, LWD

Be very carefull with Varget. I was working up a load in my 7mm-08 with the 140 gr. TSX. I worked up to 43.5 grs. of Varget. This is a load that worked great in my last 7mm-08 with the same bullet. That proved to be too much.......blown primer and broken ejector. Varget is VERY sensitive. It goes from just fine to "oh, oh" instantly. I went just a wee bit too far........ I am back working with RL-15 for my 7mm-08. Bob There is room for all of God's creatures....right next to the mashed potatoes. http://texaspredatorposse.ipbhost.com/

I've loaded for my 7mm-08 with 140 TSX using H4350, Varget, RL15 and H414 The most consistant groups/velosity are with H4350 (2825 fps and MOA or better). H414 is faster but dirty and temperature sensitive. Currently using WLR primers and neckturned Lapua .308 headstamp brass. Win & RP brass will hold more powder. I have loaded with great success the 140 TSX with 44.5 gr of Varget with CCI BR2 primers and Remington brass. Groups consistently under 1/2. I have also loaded 48.5 gr of H4350 and the 140 TSX. I load the 120TSX with 45.5 gr Varget. All shoot great. The 140 TSX is deadly on deer. I will try the 120TSX this seasona and should be the same.

Sorry to hear you had a Varget problem. Sounds real odd to me since I have had 2 yrs with it and no problem at all. I have found it to be the most consistent with velocity varying very little. Every body can make a bad lot of anything I guess. Good Luck
