Well after two years and 17 different bullets I finally found a consistent sub MOA load for my Ruger 7mmMag!
I'm using IMR4831 and the 140 grain Triple Shock to get 3200 fps and now I just need a ballistic tables to calculate the drop at different ranges. I just looked at Barne's site but didn't find one there. Anyone know of one?

If you know the ballistic coefficient, then http://www.realguns.com/ has a trajectory (exterior ballistics) calculator on their web site. You'll need to register on the site in order to use the ballistics tools but that's not a big deal. Registration is free and you won't receive any junk/spam email after registering. Plus, I think you'll enjoy looking over the Real Guns web site.

I know of no available tables for the TSX bullets available yet. I expect a new version of Barnes reloading manual to come out in the next year or so with all data in it. It will be another thing for all us to need to buy. In it's absence, I will give you some ideas of about what to expect. I am going to give you info from the Swift loading manual. My barnes manual is at my loading bench at my folks place. The info is not exact since the BC is different from the TSX. However even the Barnes company can't give you what bullets from your rifle will do under hunting conditions(temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, elevation etc) where you hunt. Here is what the Swift bullets do at 3200 fps. The 150 gr Scirrocco BC .515, +2.1 at 100, +1.8 at 200, Zero at 250, -2.9 at 300, -12.6 at 400, -27.9 at 500, -49.8 at 600. The 140 gr A-Frame BC .335 at 3200, gives +2.3 at 100, +2.0 at 200, Zero at 250, -3.4 at 300, -14.9 at 400, -34.2 at 500, -63.2 at 600. Your results may vary. This will get you in the ballpark but if you are shooting at 400, 500 and 600 I would shoot long and hard with your bullets, in your rifle, under your shooting conditions, before taking the shot. Good luck, have fun, shoot well. "D"

Thanks, Barnes lists the BC as .477 and Hornady has their 139 grn BTSP listed as having a BC of .453 which is close so I extrapolated from there.

Fjold,

I have a question. I have some 140 TSX for my 7 short mag and wonder if your supposed to stay a certain length away from the rifling as you do the X bullets? I may not have to worry about it because of the 2.860" max magazine length. Thanks BM

Everything I read says Barnes recommends .050" off of the lands.

Thanks Fjold, It's hard for me to keep my mind on reloading with your "walking girl" to the left of your post. BM

What powder weight are you using to achieve this?

Every box of Triple Shocks tells you that you may be able to increase your book load by a grain of two, but for the weak of heart you can just use standard data or something to that effect..

I have just used my tried and true loads with mine, where possible, but due to the length of the bullet that has not been possible in most cases. In my 375 I had to go to H4895 as my best choice with the 270 gr. bullet with IMR-4064 as a second choice..Both shoot well and I have not decided which is best as yet....

I'm using 66 grains of IMR4831 which is safe in my gun. I worked up from 60 grains in half grain increments and heavier powder charges were still safe in my gun but groups opened back up above 1 MOA so I stopped there.

Thanks, I just received my shipment of the Triple Shock 140 grain bullets, and was going to get started this weekend building a load with them. Sprung for the the Barns book, but always good to hear other folks experience. I have a Ruger 7mm Rem. Mag. as well, which I have used for 20+ years, but also have bought a 7mm for my Encore set up, so I have two loads to work up.
