Apparently I missed the memo last year . . . Hodgdon Powder announced the discontinuation of their IMR Enduron product line. Those IMR powders are: 4166, 4451, 4955, 7977 and 8133. No warning, just gone after the Covid shortages! I am screwed since I was converting many of my loads over to Enduron powders because of the temperature stability and CFE (Copper Fouling Eliminators). I guess I can reward Hodgdon for their poor customer service by switching to Vihtavuori which are now all Temperature Insensitive and CFE. Regards, NRA Endowment Life Member USAF Veteran

You're right of course, they are selling more product, faster, and at higher prices than ever. But I have been impressed with Vihtavuori powders . . . Regards, NRA Endowment Life Member USAF Veteran

As have I. I first used Vihtavuori powder when I couldn't find any other for sale during the first great component shortage. "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind..." Hosea 8:7

Some pf those powders were call backs as they produced excessive pressure, and other related problems according to what I read sometime ago in one of the gun rags?? Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Could it be those products come from some maker Hodgdon has stopped buying from? If they did give problems, that might explain why the connection was cut. None of the numbers seem equivalents of what I know ADI makes here.

I have a few of those (can't remember which off hand). Never could get my loads to group with them. If you lived here in TX, I'd give them to you. No way I'm shipping this stuff! I purchased some Enduron IMR4451 a couple of years back for loading in 7mm-08 when other powders were in short supply at the time. According to published information on the Enduron powders, IMR4451 is a substitute for H4350, a powder that gave me very good results when using it in 7mm-08. I could not get any decent performance from the IMR4451, velocities were lower than my other loads for the short 7mm and grouping was hardly what you would call grouping. I now also have a 7mm WSM so may try the Enduron in that cartridge. H4350 is supposedly a good powder for the WSM cartridge, maybe IMR4451 will work better in the larger capacity WSM.

So are the enduron powders gone, or is it just a relatively long term hiatus relating to supply chain issues with the European war? I didn’t see any announcement about this either, so has anyone actually been able to confirm this? I was slowly playing with working up duplication loads for some of my rifles- if they are truly gone, I guess I have some plinking powder.

I read that the plant in Canada that made Enduron for Hogdgon received a huge military contract and could not fill for both. They are still on the Hogdgon web site. IMR 4955 shows up where I shop. I wanted to try some 4451 but I was too late!

Retumbo is discontinued also.

Retumbo, darn. I tried 4451 and bought a couple of big jugs for 6.5 CM. It was pretty good, but 6.5 Staball was better. And 4451 had pressure earlier. I also tried it for 303 Brit, and 338 WM. Not super accurate. I still want to try it in 348 WIN and maybe 30-06 and 270. I have a lot, so I hope I find a load. Of course, now that it's discontinued, maybe I hope I don't find a load...

Vihtavuori is owned by the same conglomerate that owns Lapua. For those not familiar, some Lapua brass and ammo production has been curtailed in preference of military contracts. The name (of the conglomerate) doesn't come immediately to mind, but I read somewhere they are the 9th largest military munitions contractor in the "free world". With the world in the shape it is currently in, I'd not count on any ammo component being steadily, or readily available.
