I've done some searches and haven't really found what I was looking for. Anybody have any good loads for the hornady 68 match ( 69 sierra will probably work) and the 223? I've looked at the hodgdon, imr, and sierra manuals, but was looking to see what everybody is running. I just ordered some 68 match from hornady to give a try and some pet loads would be greatly appreciated.

That Hornady bullet shot really well in my colt ar-15 with 1:7 twist. I used a near max load of varget as listed in hodgdon manual. (I'm at work) and don't have the exact load in front of me. Hornady's 75 grain shot pretty good to but not as good as the 68.

Justin B:
What type/make of 223 rifle are you using? If it doesn’t have a fast enough twist it may not stabilize the heavier bullets and accuracy will suffer.

I'm at work now, but as I recollect, my accuracy load was 25.5 grains of WW748 and Sierra 69gr. MK's. This shot expremely well at 200 yards with my Savage 110FP and my Colt HBAR.

Thanks for the suggestions. I figured Varget and h4895 would come up. Just wanted to see what people were running. BTW, savage 10fp with 1 / 9 twist so stabilizing should not be a problem. Can't get my hands on any "N" powders or Accurate powders, not carried by anybody locally, mostly hodgdon, imr, winchester, and reloderx.

I like N-135, but RL-15 and Varget will work too.

Since magazine length isn't critical for your Savage boltgun, you can load 'em a bit longer than the standard 2.26" OAL for best accuracy (like Bartsche does).

Here is some load data for one of my Match AR service rifles. AA2495 is accurate arms version of 4895. Not calling it AA4895 was a marketing blunder. Anyway charges are equivalent to IMR 4895. Not H4895. I would cut the loads by a grain with H4895 and work up. You will find that any of the 4895 series of powders provides excellent accuracy with any of the heavier bullets, 75, 77, 80 in the AR. I shot at least 1000 Hornady 68’s using my Sierra data and found no difference in performance. Now I do not like trying to push 68’s or 69’s much past 2800 fps in my AR’s. I have found pressure problems in hot weather and it is just not worth eating up firing pins and etching bolt faces to get an extra 50 or 100 fps. Incidentally I got two legs, one a Regional Bronze and the other a Camp Perry Silver using the 68’s and 69’s out to three hundred. They shoot just fine.
