I am about to start loading for my new Glock 23 in 40 SW. I have 165gr bullets, brass, primers, but no powder. I could use some suggestions on a good clean burning powder for the 40 SW with 165gr bullets.

I have several pounds of Blue Dot and Unique, but I was told this may be a bit dirty, I duno.

Thanks

I have found VihtaVuori N340 to burn very well in mine.

I use VV 3N37 exclusively for .40 S&W. it can be purchased from Midway. it is the cleanest powder i have used in that caliber.

I had a 23 and fed it 6gr of Unique under 165gr Gold Dots with excellent results. I plinked with Berry's 165gr HP.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

I selected HS-7, since discontinued for .40S&W. But then I'm shooting 180gr LSWC (not a Glock).

I could continue to use HS-7 for several years as many stores have stocks of it, but I'm switching to HS-6 with the next batch.

The Blue Dot will work great in the .40 - just load it on the "warm" side. BD doesn't burn cleanly in low-pressure loads.

I load all my .40 S&W with 165 grain gold dots and my 10MM with 180 grain gold dots. I push then with VV 3N37. This is a great powder. Burns supper clean just like the VVn320 in my .45 ACP.

10.2grs of VihtaVouri 3n38 averaged 1355 fps out of the Glock 35, and that's 165gr too. Very clean burning and super consistent!

Unique is a good all-around powder. TiteGroup is good too.

800x gives the most. 6" velocity numbers (g24 barrel) put the 135gr bullet over 1700 fps, 155gr well into the 1500's, 180's around 1275 and 200's around 1175. This powder does well with my 10mm's too.

Now those are some impressive velocities. Be sure to wear hearing protection.
