I just put some test loads together to be shot through several different rifles . 175 smk. wlp primers new rem 308 brass sized and trimmed, 43 gr of Varget. Loaded on a Hornady lnl ammo plant.I sorted by total bullet run out. 4 thou or under, 5 to 7 thou. Over 7 thou but under 10 thou. Under 4 thou means 2 thou of bullet run out etc. The worse of the ammo put 10 in a moa. I skipped to the under 4 thou group and got a bug hole group for six shots. I have a meplate trimmer that works on the 175 smks when loaded . The trimmed bullets shot a even smaller group. Powder thrown through the lnl powder measure held to 3 tenths of a grain. Groups shot under fair conditions at 100 yards. More study needed. I will be putting 3000 round together, the will be sorted with the least run out going to the bolt guns , the middle group keep for the self loaders. The worse keep for run and gun stuff. The stuff shot through the bolt guns with the least run-out will be neck sized only from then on out. If I have enough of the 4 thou group, I will sort by weight and finish bench rest prep.

I used two rifles for the test.

A rem light tactical ( LTR ) with 20" factory barrel that had be blue printed and chamber set back and re-chambered with a brand new 155 palma reamer, with a heavy tubbs recoil lug . a vortex scope set at 18x. It shoot under a moa with factory gold medal match, and down under 1/4 moa with a better scope.

A rem custom made by Longshot rifles , rock barrel ,Nightforce set at 32x.

Both rifles have match triggers and with fine tune loads ( fireformed neck sized, weight sorted ,neck turned , flash holes and primer pockets uniformed. The bullets sorted by ogive then soft seated long shoot under 1/4 moa. Both rifles are in HS Precision stocks that have bedded with Devcon steel

The ten I shot with the over .007 run out were shot with the long shot rifle, I shot 6 rounds with the .007 out of the ltr, It did about the same all under a Inch.

I shot a 5 shot group out of the longshot rifle and a 6 shot group out of the LTR (LTR0 with the under .004 lot. Both groups shot with the under .004 run out, were smaller in size and were bug hole type groups. The long shot rifle shot smaller groups than the LTR, I think that had more to do about the scope than the rifles.

I ran the test to determine if it would be worth sorting bullets by ogive and uniform primer pockets. This is my first time loading lots of rounds ,in new full length sized brass on a progressive press. I think it may be worth it. I have 1500 175 smks, and a 1000 new rem cases, If I get a 3rd under .004 run out, That is 300+ rounds that will out perform fed gold medal match, a another 300 that will performs just as well.
