OK guys, idiot question here.

I have a new custom 260Rem due in the next few weeks, it is coming with a Saami minimum spec chamber.

I need to make brass for it.

In my possession I have 100 pieces of Lapua 243win brass and a RCBS FL die set.

OK, so I lube the cases outside as normal, and also lube inside the case necks, and FL resize in the 260 resizing die.

Then what?

Do I need to neck turn, and if so, how do I go about this?

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

A 243 case necked up will thin and shorten the neck to begin with. The fact that the chamber is still within Spec you should not have to turn the necks. Doesn't mean you couldn't do it if you wanted.

As usual just my $.02

It's your rifle and you have a right to do what you wish but I can't help but wonder why you would wish to neck UP cases for your new, snug chambered rifle. Necking up makes for necks even thinner than normal and that will defeat at least part of what your new barrel & chamber has to offer.

If I had such a rifle, I would either use standard brass or, even better, neck DOWN some .308 brass. Then turn the necks IF it were needed, but I doubt it would. (In fact, that's what I do with my factory rifles, it helps too.)

Ask your 'smith what the actual diameter of the chamber neck is. Turn necks to a loaded diameter at least 3 thou smaller, IF turning is needed at all. Down-sized necks really don't get as thick as many seem to think!

How to turn necks? Buy a neck turner! Instructions will be included. Both hand held or case trimmer types are readily available. They all work fine but the cost spread, expecially for the BR grade tools, is great.

The hand held tools are better that the turner mounted types, IMHO. The easiest to find and less costly hand held tools are from RCBS, Hornady and Forster. I have used them all and prefer the Forster HOT-100. It's actually less pricey, has an excellant carbide cutter and an easy to use calibrated cutter depth knob. It works perfectly for me.

Expand the necks. Shoot 'em. The proof is in their performance.

Will the cases chamber? If your chamber is SAAMI, they should.
I would load them and fire them once to fit them precisely to your rifle's chamber, then trim them to a uniform length, and enjoy.

I've been shooting a 7-08 since before it was a standardize factory cartridge and I've done exactly like you with .243 brass and shot it for years. If they are shorter than 7-08 specs, not to worry.

I have a 260ai that I neck up Lapua 243 brass for. The chamber is already min. spec so it runs fine w/ 260 brass or 243 necked up. I tried 308 match brass, but had to neck down in a 7-08 die, then 260ai die then turn necks. no appreciable diff in accuracy for m over the Lapua.
