I'm going to the gun show soon and want to get some powder for some new loads.

I'm using a 165gr. Nosler B-tip but I can't remember the accuracy load froom the Nosler Manual. The most accurate powder is one of those Swedish Powders that starts with a V.

Could one of you look this up for me? I'd sure appreciate it.

Grizzly

My Nosler manual lists the most accurate load as 62.5 grains of H 4831. The only V V powder listed for the 165 gr bullets is N 160 and that is probably about as fast as you'd want to go in an 06 Ackley. I use V V N560 in mine but you can never go wrong with H 4831 in case of this capacity. JMHO

I prefer:
IMR-4350 From 50.8 grains to 59.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

But if you insist on one of the VV powders:
N-160 From 56.0 grains to 60.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

N-550 From 48.0 grains to 57.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

These are not from any manual...

Thanks,
I guess I'll just stick with my old 4350 load.
I just KNEW that there was an accuracy load using vv.

For what little it's worth, my '06 AI likes the IMR 4831 and the 180 grain Noslers. The 165's just don't get moving well enough for some reason. For sheer speed, the R22 is hell on wheels.

None of the "V" powders are swedish.

The V powders are from Finland.

The Swedish powders are either Norma or Normal repackaged as RL- propellants repackaged by reliant.

I like RL-22 in the 30-06 with 165's, it simply isn't possible to squeeze too much into either a std 30-06 case or an AI case.

Nosler screwed up by the numbers by not publishing loads for the AI with the RL propellants as their top load for the AI with the 165gr bullets is SLOWER than for the RL22 load with the unmodified '06 case.

And the reason they stopped increasing the charge in the std '06 case is because they got to something like 105% of case capacity and wouldn't pack any more into the caseSmiler

I won't state my powder charge but using a long drop tube
and neck sized cases you can fit several more grains in there and get past 3100fps with 165's in the '06.

Though only do so in a strong rifle and keep an eye on primer pocket expansion....

GA, my favorite load with the 165 NBT in '06 AI is 66 grs of Re19. With a 26" barrel it'll give ~3150 fps. This is max (or within 1 gr. or so). Also, you might want to try Re22 - going as high as 69 grs., that is depending upon pressure signs. You can get ~3200 fps, but I wouldn't go past that velocity. The Re19 load is extremely accurate in my gun. Always remember, that guns vary and individual powder lots vary somewhat in burn rate. Hence, I advocate using the Quick Load program and a chronograph as you work-up a load - of course all further controlled by close monitoring of brass pressure signs. Happy hunting and shooting, AIU
