Data 86 Powder Load Data Help

I could use some help with Data 86 load data. According to Accurate Arm's web site, load data for AA 3100 can be used for Data 86.
When I checked their website for published data, there is a big difference between Data 86 and AA3100 for Start and Max loads (same bullet same weight etc. etc). In some cases a Start load for AA3100 is higher than Data 86's Max load. To make things even worse the data on the jug of DP 86 isn't even close to AA3100.
I would like to work up loads for my M70 6.5x55,CZ 6.5x55 and my Browning 300WSM using Data 86 Powder, but, I don't know were to start?
I contacted Accurate for some help and all I got so far was "AA3100 is to slow for the 6.5x55, start low and work up" OK?? Start where, AA 3100, 8Lb Jug data, or web site data for DP 86.
I could use some help with Start and Max loads using Data 86 for 6.5X55 140gr Partitions and 300WSM /180 Partitions.

Thanks

ConfusedEverything a number of us have used acc86 in indicates that it is very close to 3100 load data not necessarily performance. So far none of us have witnessed high pressures in any of perhaps 8 or 9 cartridges, maybe more.

6.5mmx55mm, 140 gr. Rem, 47gr.acc86, Wlrm, RP cases, oal=3.115", 2740 fps.

140gr.sierra Match King, same loading, oal=3.150", 2767fps.

It isn't caved in stone but I would suspect that the powder weight and max. pressures may be very close but there may be a somewhat different PV Diagram yieding different energy transferes and velocities. If you feel uncomfortable start with one of the 4350 load data. Originally I started with 4064, went to 4350, 4831 and finally acc3100. If you want more data on other rounds E Mail or PM, me beerroger

In my experience, the supplied data for Accurate Data 86 is on the conservative side, at least for the .270WSM. Of course, they didn't bother providing data for the 6.5x55, but I find no problem using their 3100 data for my Howa chambered for the Swede. Most of my work with it has revolved around the 129 gr Hornady bullet, but I have tried it with others including hte 120 gr Sierra Match King Hollow Point, the 140 gr Hornady SP and the 160 gr Sierra SMP. My load ranges are as follows:
120 gr Sierra MKHP 45.5 to 48.5 gr
129 gr Hornady SP 45.5 to 48.0 gr
140 gr Hornady SP 44.0 to 45.0 gr*
Will try 46.0 gr next time
160 gr Sierra 160 gr SMP 43.0 to 44.0 gr*
will try 45.0 next time
I use CCI-200 and RP 9 1/2 primers in my loads, but will experiment with some magnum primers (reducing loads to start of course) to see if Data 86 will burn more cleanly with the hotter primers.
The Data 86 works great in my 6.5x55, best loads being the 129 gr Hornady with 47.5 gr. It also works great in my Stevens 200 in .243 Win with bullets in 70 gr, 80 gr, and 95 gr weights.
So far it hasn't worked quite as well in the .270WSM, although it is still acceptable. Velocities are a litle lower than Reloder 19 with 130 gr bullets, but with 140 and 150 gr bullets it is quite competitive with my favorite short mag powder, Vihtavuori N-165.
I looked at Accurate's latest loading data for the .300WSM and it doesn't show any data for that cartridge with 3100 (or Data 86, as I am sure you are aware.) My newest Nosler Manual lists the following loads for the .300WSM using accurate 3100 powder:
150 gr bullet 66.5 to 70.5 gr 3036 fps to 3205
165/168 65.0 to 69.0 gr 2920 fps to 3118
180 64.0 to 68.0 gr 2815 fps to 3005
200 62.5 to 66.5 gr 2685 fps to 2873
I wouldn't be afraid to try Data 86 with the starting loads ofr the 3100 and work up carefully. I don't think I would be comfortable exceeding the 3100 maximums listed with Data 86, unless I had access to reliable pressure measuring equipment.
Hope this helps..

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

Thank You both! I new this was the place to come to set me straight.

Roger, I see that you are using Mag primers for DP 86. Any particular reason for this?

I have a tendancy to use magnum primers with slow burning powders. In fact I use magnum primers a lot. I have more of them than standard primers. beerroger E-Mail answered.

Well, I made a trip to the range yesterday armed with my son's M70 Featherweight 6.5x55 and pile of DP 86 loads.

I have tried several powders in this Swede (R-22, Hunter, R-19, Magnum, H414, MagPro, H4350) with limited success. I could not get this rifle to group less than 1 1/2 inches no matter what I tried. Most loads were over 2 inches. Until now!

From 45gr to 47gr behind 140gr Partitions DP 86 produced some amazing results. All groups were under 1 inch with the smallest (47gr) measuring out to out .610. Velocities for 47gr averaged 2743fps with very mild recoil.

These were all 3 shot groups and I know I have to do some more testing, but, DP 86 seems to be the ticket for this M70 Swede. I can't wait to try DP 86 in my 300WSM and CZ 550FS 6.5x55.

Thanks for all your help.
