The new Cabela's hardcover catalogue shows them selling .303 Savage loaded ammo (for $.39.95 a box!) under the name "Cabela's Obsolete Ammo". In the text, it says the ammo may either be new commercial brass specifically for the caliber(s) listed, or reformed new brass. It doesn't say which circumstance applies to which of the dozen or more calibers for which the ammo is available. Has anyone seen any of this stuff? If so, is it new .303 Savage brass, or brass made from something else? Does anyone happen to know who is turning it out for Cabela's? I have not seen it, but I would guess that for the .303 Savage, new cases would be required since it is bigger at the head than .30/30 size stuff. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

I just purchased two boxes of 303 British 180 gr round nose soft point made by PMC for $12.99 per box. I had no idea it was obsolete. I think I'll not buy any of Cabela's over priced stuff.

The base of rimed cases makes the 303Sav fall into a no man's land, but some convert with 220 Swift [which does not have much of a rime] and some here on AR turn the 30-40 on a lathe. Still, the rarity of rimmed brass with a .440" base makes shooting a 303 Sav a royal pain. 30-30 .420" 303 Sav .440" 303 Brit and 30/40 .457 307 Win .470 7.62x54R .494"
