Finally found some and got it home. The kernals are really small. I took a once fired 30-06 win case and swirled in 65.0 grains. It was just starting up the neck. Put this load and a 165 bullet on Quick load and it predicts 2911 fps at 57,300 psi out of my 23" barrel. Am thinking this combo with a slightly compressed load and 168 tsx could be really awesome. Will have to do some work on this someday. I think this powder will get us reloaders the HE type load for the '06 class cartridge. PS yes I do have a 300 wby and am not trying to make the '06 into one. Just taking an open minded view of new things.

kraky, here are some loads I worked up for my 30-06 AI. You might be interested.

7828… 66 165 NBT 3102 ACCUR
7828… 67 165 NBT 3133 ACCUR
7828… 68 165 NBT 3208 ACCUR
7828… 69 165 NBT 3224 ACCUR

This is with a 26" barrel - that's important.

I bought a pound last month & love it in my .260ai. Before I had to really compress the powder to get the 139-142gr bullets seated. Now ther is just the slightest compression. Accuracy is very good, many groups in the 0.3s.

Don, 59grs. H4350 and a 165grain bullet will get you 2938 and 49,400CUP from a 24" tube, according to my Hodgdon data. Jay

Hey Jay--I realize that H4350 is "THE" powder for the '06 in many peoples minds. But there seems to be some strange data out there on it. Surprisingly Hodgdon is very aggressive on the data for this with the '06. The last batch of H4350 I got was faster than my I4350. Most people wouldn't go 59 of I4350 with a 165 or they'd be in trouble. (And of course I realize the wise saying "work up")
It seems like for most guns about 2850fps is a stopping point with a 165 (again there are exeptions).
Maybe this 7828ssc won't be as amazing as I thought but everyone seems to think the new HE loadings use some sort of slow burning powder that is somehow compressed and that's the magic formula to high velocity at normal pressures. I was surprised at how much of this slow powder I could get into the case without much compression. QL sure seems to see alot of promise at low pressure and there is more velocity available if you want to get up around 65,000 psi.
I'm still thinking that with heavy for class bullets this might be "the powder" for the '06 case. Not sure if the wsm's run out of room with slow powders or not but could see good use there too.

Fred--QC gives a prediction with that 62 grain load at 2737 out of a 22" barrel at just 55,200 psi. If one wanted to push towards max it predicts 64.4 grains would give 2871fps at 64,000 psi. (and remember 65 grains was just at the base of the neck on my win case)

AGAIN THESE ARE PREDICTIONS AND CERTAINLY not where you want to start.

I'm just thinking how fun it would be to have the time and equipment to play with pressure gauges with this powder.

Don, I always thought the powders they, well, Hornady anyways, uses a gel-like powder in their light and heavy magnum rounds. read an article awhile back in G&A think it was, and when they pryed the powder out with a pick they couldn't get it all back in the case, because, originally it was a gel. I'd think Federal is using the same type "powder" or gel or whatever you want to call it. Jay
