| Get the 45-70, you will be a lot happier with the outcome.

| They can be loaded so that their performance is identical. The 45/70 has been around since 1873 and seems as popular as ever. You can buy the nitro for black 405 @ 1300, the express 300 @ 1800 , and a wide variety of high intensity loads from the boutique mfgs. The 450 is loaded only to full power - 350 @ 2100 - which most folks don't need most of the time. It will be lucky to see the end of the decade and uses a case that cannot be made from any other. I chose a 45/70 when I bought my Guide Gun. Good hunting! |

| I bought a 450 when they first came out. Sold it to buy a 45-70 Guide rifle. Both bascially have the same ballistics but the 45-70 info, ammo, cases, etc are easier to find. Go with the 45-70 and learn from my mistake.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

| I think that the 45/70 is more practical and ammo will always be around. |

| That is a smoking price on POP's package. I have the Marlin ported .450 guide gun. Absolutely love it. I really can't imagine what the difference in the two calibers would be as far as terminal ballistics go. Both shoot extremely close velocity-wise. The only thing I would like to have in addition to my current package would be a stainless version. There is one available in the .45/70.
