yankees1,

Go to ShortMag.org

They have some pretty good data but, I will warn you, my loads w/ the 300 WSM have been substantially faster than the books list but, no pressure signs showed while using book data.

You might want to chrony each load instead of taking the book data velocity. It seems w/ most cart. the books come pretty close and most of the time they are higher than the velocity you find in your own testing but, w/ my 24" Savage, I have been smoking the book velocities and it aint the chrony acting up.

Good Luck!

I tried H4350 and H4831 and got the best results with H4831. For some other magnums, H4831 runs a little slow. Not the case with the 300 WSM. You can fill the case and get all the velocity you want, and then some.

H4350 will send it flying alos, but your not going to get the fuller case capcity to keep things consistent.

Maybe in a few years after I get over being burnt out on load devlopment I might try the Reloader powders.

My best results (.5-.6") are: (Model 70 classic stainless)

180 Nosler BT or Hornady SST
64 Gr H4350, seated at rifling
61 Gr Vihtavouri N550, also at rifling

Average results (.75-1.0")
H414 most loads, some 1"+

Poor results (1.5" or more)
H4831SC, every load

I have Magpro in hand to try next. It was specifically made for the shortmags, and lots of good results are flying around at the shortmags web site. All loads are safe in MY gun, and are book max or less. YMMV. Have fun!

Dear Yankees1,

I have tried RL-22, H-4831SC, and IMR-7828 before settling on Win-760 powder. I have loaded two different bullets with those powders. The first was a Speer 180 gr Grand Slam. The second was a 180 gr Hornady Interlock BTSP. Here are the results:

For the Speer, my best group was 0.623" (100 yds) with 65 gr of Win-760 and a velocity of 2,866 ft/s. Note, this velocity is about 75 ft/s below what Speer published in its table for this max load.

For the Hornady, my best group was 0.537" (100 yds) with 66 gr of Win-760 and an average velocity of 2,886 ft/s which is within 60 ft/s of what Hornady published in its tables.

Good luck,
douglast

CDH, I hope you get a chance to post results for Magpro for the 300 wsm soon. I have heard a little about this powder but have not seen any results for the 300 wsm. I shoot 170 JLK in mine right now with 71 g of IMR 7828. It gets 1/2" at 3090 fps.

My best .300 WSM load is 68.0 grains of RE-19 and either 180g Partitions or 180g Hornady SSTs. They shoot to around 1/2" at a 100 yds at 2900 fps + out of my Browning Hunter (23 inch barrel). I've tried H414, H4350, IMR4350 but RE-19 gives the most consistent results for me.
