has anyone used IMR 7828 in a 25-066? I recently loaded up a batch of shells for my model 700 25-06 using the powder and the results were pretty bad. The bullets i used were hornady sst's, hornady interlock hp's, nosler ballistic tips, and nosler partitions. The groups at 50 yds averaged around .750"-.850". I know it could be worse but the rifle has shot better groups at 100 yards with the sst'sj and AA 4350 powder. I am adamant about checking the powder charge and i wont settle until it is exactly the desired amount so i know inconsistent charges werent a factor. Right now the only conclusion that i can make is the powder isnt very well suited to my rifle or loads so has anybody used this powder before and what kind of experience did you have?

I tried some IMR7828 loads in my .25-06 yesterday. Bullet was Hornady 117 gr BTSP. Seated .025" off the lands. The results were disappointing. Groups were as big as 2 1/2" @ 100 yds. I tried 53 - 55 grains, all powder charges were weighed. at 55 grains, I was getting pressure signs in new Winchester brass. Next test will be with IMR 4831 and H 4831

IMR 7828 is quite well suited for use in the 25-06 provided you are shooting heavy bullets. You will much better results when shooting 75 to 100 grain bullets with IMR 4831 or H 4350, or other powders with a similar burning rate. You simply cannot get enough IMR 7828 in the 25-06 case when using light bullets to work well, it is a slow burning powder and needs a heavy projectile for enough resistance to burn well. Having said that, my loads for 115 to 120 grain bullets all use IMR 7828. I get very good groups and velocities using IMR 7828 with heavy bullets. In my loads I use Fed 215M primers when loading IMR 7828. R Flowers

would rl-17 be good with 100 grainers?

I tried 7828 in my 25-06 using Nosler 110s. It worked fine for the heavier bullet. Took up too much room for the lighter. With the 110s I ended up using MRP and RL22. For 85s it was RL19 and H414. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I've used 7828 with Hornady 120 HP's but I got the highest velocity and accuracy with IMR 4350 and IMR 4831(1-2 gr more) in a long throated barrel set up for that bullet seated to base of neck for maximum case volume. RL-19 and 22 also workded well. Checkout Hodgdons site for paticulars. RL-17 would work well for 100 grainers...same load as with H4350... Luck

7828 runs best near the top end, plus, who accuracy tests @ 50yds? I don;t have a 25-06, but my 260ai loves 7828 w/ medium to heavy for caliber bullets going hard. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

IMR 7828 SSC is my powder of choice for my .25-06 using Nosler 115 gr. BTips, yielding sub MOA accuracy and the best velocity of any powder I've used. This same load also shoots great in a friend's .25-06. While 7828 might be too slow for optimal performance with very light bullets in the .25-06, I suspect that it would do well with any bullet of at least 100 grains or more. I doubt that your problem lies with the powder, although guns are individuals and may not react well to any given component.
